Chaney was a sworn officer with a large Florida police department where he served for 33 years in the following capacities:

- Burglary, Arson, Auto Theft Detective
- Robbery, Homicide Detective
After promotion, Chaney continued his career path as:

He has been decorated with two Medals of Valor, a Distinguished Service Medal, and over a dozen of Commendations.
On retirement, Randall Chaney served for four years as a Captain at a smaller police department where he modernized training, rewrote the policy manual and brought the agency into Florida police accreditation compliance.
Chaney held advisory positions in the Pinellas Police Standards Council and Southeastern Public Safety Institute Advisory Board. He is a member of the Florida Police Chiefs Association and a life member of the Tampa Bay Area Chiefs Association.
A native Floridian, hunter, fisherman, hiker and archer, he is enjoying a much-deserved retirement.
