Joined the British Army as an Apprentice Ammunition Technician at sixteen in 1958, served three year apprenticeship followed by 'adult' service until June 1969. This included service in UK and Singapore Ammunition Depots and operational service for two years [1964 – 66] in Malaysian/ Indonesian confrontation in Borneo. [Brilliant two years!]
After military service spent 27 years in UK policing, retired at 55 in 1997 – retired ever since!
