Yes, you are right, that would probably be the best way to go. I just thought being able to switch calibers would be interesting. Back when the Bren Ten was first announced they were to offer a version with 2 slides and barrels in 10mm and .45 auto. Dont know if any were ever shipped that way.

I have an XD-M 5.25 in 10mm. I was wondering if I was to find a slide and barrel in .45 auto if they would fit my frame so I could shoot both calibers. It would require having the slide, barrel and mags for each caliber. May need to swap recoil spring too.

The hood locks up in the slide so if both the slide and barrel are changed then why won't this work as long as the lugs fit up correctly in the frame?

OK, I will ask. What prevents the .45 barrel from fitting the 10mm frame?

Does anyone know if the slide and barrel from a .45 ACP XD-M will fit to the frame of a 10mm gun so you could have a dual caliber gun?
