    Review: Springfield Armory 1911 Mil-Spec .45

Honestly I would save up and buy a TRP. It's worth it. And it's not a usgi 1911.

Supply and demand. I never overpay unless I run out of toilet paper.. You pay too much it opens a market for inflation in the gun world.

    Review: Springfield Armory 1911 Mil-Spec .45

Go Navy! I know many who prefer a milspec 1911A1. In my opinion the only issue with shooting one is lack of front strap checkering. I have XXL hands and the grip safety is fine, but I do like the larger beavertail a lot better.

    Review: Springfield Armory 1911 Mil-Spec .45

My father purchased a 1911 when I was young. I opened my hand up on the grip safety. It was loud and cycled violently: it made me want to tame it all the more. The action/recoil spring probably beyond its intended lifespan. The trigger was dry and gritty and it broke like two-by-four, I could...

Ayoob: Don’t Make These Carry Gun Mod Mistakes

I feel like there is a disconnect in the perception of a well made clean 5lb trigger and a spongy gritty horribly made 5lb trigger. I agree with Mr. Ayoob in that a competition trigger should not be fielded as a carry or duty trigger. There are plenty of amazing duty grade triggers on the...

Ayoob: Don’t Make These Carry Gun Mod Mistakes

I don't consider it a hair trigger until it's below 2oz. That's just me. My finger muscle twitch will fire anything around 2lbs, and over 5lbs is enough to become problematic for me. If you look at older factory 1911's the sear is chewed up and no matter how the springs are "tuned" and no...

    Is an Empty Chamber Dangerous?

My Walther does that with hollowpoints: I second this warning/advice. My TAC XD 45 did that for a while, but once the mag springs set for a while fully loaded I have not experienced the issue again. I suspect the Walther has the same issue as the springs are insanely aggressive and stiff: sadly...

    Is an Empty Chamber Dangerous?

This is one of the more empirical writeups on the subject without getting too tangical: good job! Mr. Ayoob always brings a good deal of experience to the conversation. My carry pistol: pointed at my meaty bits in appendix carry, invisible to the world around me, has six mechanical safeties to...

    Bridget Stalked on the Trail

Reasonably trained dogs are #1 deterrent and companionship. But you need a Belgian or Dutch Shepherd. They also take up less space, move faster, and tend to have less health issues. A male with good drive will protect you, you can train him in the field just purchase a good collar, training...

    Bridget Stalked on the Trail

If you ever have the inclination to leave the handgun at camp or off your body: dont. Also keep an identical spare locked at camp for when your 1911 breaks because it eventually will. Having a spare you can swap out is important in a duty gun. Just a few tips learned from my military...

    Ayoob’s 10K Round 1911

My Springfield 1911A1 Loaded has 13,000rds approximately, may be closer to 15k at this point. I don't like the lack of checkering on the front strap for a shooter: I sent my Loaded into Springfield's custom shop and had some work done and the basic machine checkering done and I'm very happy...
