There, there now, Bob ... where you don't need educating, I'm surprised that you waste your valuable time here reading all these senseless posts that you find so uninformative.
And ... that's a lot of literary license, as 'not smart' isn't necessarily stupid - unless, of course, the shoe fits...
In the situation described by the PO, leaving cover wasn't smart. Civilians, LEO's and military are each exposed to different environments that call for different 'rules', if you will. Whereas LEO's and military are paid & trained to run towards danger, that's not a very good path for a civilian...
I think you missed the point, Bob, as it's no doubt possible to find an exception to EVERY rule. Also ... there's this little thing called 'common sense' that should guide your cover decisions. For instance: it's not very likely that a civilian is going to have 'several boogeymen' out-flanking...
And there you have it! When I lived in the NE, I carried my BHP in a shoulder rig for years. After moving to Florida, it's a pocket-carry SS mouse gun to the beach and a 1911 officer AIWB everywhere else. Choices are great!
If you carry in a way that's comfortable & safe for you then you're doing nothing wrong - be it AIWB, IWB, OWB, pocket or shoulder. I have no issues with printing or poking - that's why I chose an officer model. And as for the danger - a 1911 will not discharge unless the manual safety has been...
I worked nights since the 60's - bars, clubs, retail, restaurants, & private clubs - and always carried. I think I practiced situational awareness before I knew what it was. I've had to discharge my weapon once, brandish a few times and got very ready to brandish a few more times than that...
You're absolutely right. In Florida, it IS legal to fire warning shots and it IS legal to go outside your home. Trouble is ... I think some are confusing 'legal' with 'smart'. No matter - the OP is in Deland. Even if his warning shots WERE against the law, I don't see 'anyone', local or county...
I carry AIWB as well. Started with a DAO but changed last year to a cocked & locked 1911 officer. Have no trouble driving or doing chores, less chance of accidental exposure when squatting and more accessible in the car. I used to carry at 3:00 but - at a small gathering, during handshakes &...
Extremely late to reply also, but ... here's an interesting article addressing ammo for sub-compacts:

My EDC has been an SCCY CPX-3 ... 2.9" barrel and 10+1 capacity. I wanted concealability without sacrificing capacity.
And when...
