    Dry-Fire Practice Tips

Hot glue would work just as well I would think. It's pliable after it cools, so the firing pin strike would "refill" after deformation. I've never owned a hot glue gun, but I always have silicone on hand, as I use it to seal some of the circuit boards I create for my other hobby.

    Dry-Fire Practice Tips

I'm a cheapskate LOL. Looking at most of the snap caps on the market, that's what it looks like they did to me.

    Dry-Fire Practice Tips

I do dry fire practice, though with all of my striker fired guns, it's a pain in the patoot, as it requires racking the slide for every "shot." I made my own Snap Caps by filling the primer pocket with silicone caulk, and painted the FMJs bright green with Epoxy Enamel. Dry firing with my DA/SA...

Does This Gun Prove That John Moses Browning Got the 1911 Wrong?

While I agree with everything about the 1911 and its namesake cartridge, I have to wonder what was going on in JMB's mind when he started designing the HI Power. He abandoned the .45 in favor of the 9mm. I believe he was far ahead of others in seeing something superior in that cartridge...

The Japanese Type 26 Revolver’s Fatal Flaw

Fascinating really, when you look at most of Imperial Japan's Small Arms, and how antiquated they were. Starting the war with type 30 and 38 rifles and then producing the type 99 half way through as the 6.5 Arisaka was underperforming. The good doctor is correct that wars are won by the...

Ammunition Powerhouse: Federal at 100 Years

Congratulations to Federal on their 100th Anniversary. A monumental achievement. I couldn't begin to count how many Federal Red Box .22 LR's I've gone through over the years (I've one box tagged at $0.37 retail price purchased in the 60's,my guess would be the high hundreds of boxes. That's not...

Ayoob: Is It Time to Retire the 1911?

I wouldn't carry my 1911, simply because I'm not that comfortable with the platform, and it's not set up as a carry gun. I use it for matches at our local gun club. I'd have to spend some money getting it throated and tuned to be a carry gun, as well as spend a considerable amount of time...

How Do You Carry Back Up Ammo?

From the beginning of my CC time (almost 30 years), I've always carried 2 magazines. Starting with my first carry gun, a Walther PPK/S, with 7 + 1 capacity. Always in a leather Mag Holster on my belt. So when my aging eyes made the PPKs sights impossible in Low Light. I went to a P365 SIG (a bit...

Cop-Killer Bullets: Gun Control Lie or Actual Threat?

Great article, and one I intend to keep. I've a few KTW rounds in a drawer on my Reloading bench. I've 2 boxes of Black Talons as well I've saved for a rainy day. What was hilarious to me, was when Winchester pulled it from the market and introduced the same basic bullet, without the black...

When You Are Your Own First Responder — Setting Up a Rural Home Defense Rifle

As I live in a rural area exactly as described in the article, I depend on an AR in .300 AAC as my Primary Defense Weapon. An old Winchester Model 94 in 30-30 is my backup.

    Review: XD-M Elite 4.5" OSP 10mm

A little over a year ago, I was going to buy a 10mm, a Springfield 1911 in 10mm to be precise. Until I started looking for ammo. Couldn't find any, anywhere, at any price. Even now, it's still more than I'm willing to pay for ammo.

SkunkWorks in the Trenches: America’s Experimental Helmets of World War I

Interesting article. I actually own a Kelly helmet, that was painted white and distributed to the Civil Air Defense Wardens (of which my Great Grandfather was member of), during WW 2.

    The .30-40 U.S. Krag-Jorgensen in Combat

Very well written article. The real problem with the Krag in hindsight, was that the system and caliber were already obsolete by the time of its adoption. We've one in the family that was purchased through the DCM after the Great War (unfortunately, a great-uncle chose to have it sporterized)...

Pushing the Hellcat 9mm to 200 Yards

I'll agree that Micro 9's leave a lot to be desired at the range. I prefer winter, when wearing a heavy coat let's me carry either my PPQ in .40 S&W or my M9 (both fully capable of consistent 100+ yard shots as long as I do my part). 70% of the time though, I do carry a Micro 9. In this case, a...

The Threat You Missed — Are You Prepared?

Great article. I'll be the first to say I don't practice as much as I should. Even components are higher and scarce. I did stock up, since I reload, but as Ammogedon continues, my stocks are dwindling, and who knows when primers will hit the shelves again.

Nazis, Noms de Geurre and the Complex History of the Hi-Power

Yes, I fully understand the difference in the two systems, as I own both, but that doesn't change my original question of why J.M.B. did not expend any time/effort towards developing a DA/SA trigger.

Nazis, Noms de Geurre and the Complex History of the Hi-Power

Bob, the first successful commercial DA/SA was the Walther PP, Polizeipistole or Police Pistol which was introduced in 1929, nine years before the P38. The PPK, Polizeipistole kriminal or Police Pistol Criminal for detectives, was introduced in 1932. So only three years after Browning passed for...

Nazis, Noms de Geurre and the Complex History of the Hi-Power

I've read many books about J. M. Browning, and one thing about the man has always perplexed me, and that is why he never put any real effort into developing a DA/SA Self Loading Pistol? It seems to me to be the obvious progression in pistol design, yet he never pursued that direction. Leaving...

Adept Armor NovaSteel Review: Taking Armor from Medieval to Modern

That price point is an eye opener. Compared to the $500+ a good composite costs for sure.

An Omega Man SMG? The M76 9mm

I'd read a little about the Swedish K, how much was true and how much myth, only God knows. I always wondered why it didn't see more widespread use. Now, I know.
