From my limited experience with steel cases ammo, I have seen that it was less accurate than the brass counterparts I had with me. Like @ScottJ when possible I will carry OWB as I am quicker that way vs IWB and during the colder months a light jacket or flannel shirt helps cover that up.

In terms of short barreled rifles, the 300blk, shortest barrel length performance is 8.5-9” I would not recommend a 5.5” barrel for 300blk, not only would you probably run into reliability issue but most importantly performance issue coming from ammo. Even the SA EVAC barrel is 7.5”. Check this...

This is probably my most favorite offering from SA, in terms of handguns. I like DA/SA be it revolvers or autos. CZ or Beretta, which some variants of those models are Decocker only. I don’t one an XD-E, yet but have fondled one and a friend of mine has one and speaks highly of it.
