Red Dot vs. Iron Sights for Concealed Carry

Been carrying for well over 50 years, without a red dot. I do have one, but instinct is hard to overcome, so I stick with iron sights. Nothing against the red dot, fine for range time, but when time is critical, original sights work best for me.

Springfield Armory 1911 TRP Review — 4.25″ Carry Contour in .45 ACP

    Vinyl Gun Wrap experience/opinions??

Let us know how it turns out. I was a big city cop, retired 30 years ago and would never have told my father to get rid of his firearms. Obviously has no faith in you. Keep your pistol and fooey on him, and his wife!

Are You Forgetting These Prepper Gun Skills?

As regards reloading, a “hobby” I have pursued since the late 70s, the recent price hikes in components make it more challenging. My take is that I nay reload for obscure calibers; 32-20, .303 British, .338 or .300 Weatherby. While the last two are not really obscure, their cost is such that...

Is the .45’s Stopping Power a Myth?

The folks here have lots of true stories about “anyone” can handle a 1911. Problem is, there is a NG difference in ‘can handle’ and ‘want to handle’. There are a lot of people who are terrified of a “big gun” especially in .45. Look at the FBI with the 10mm, reduced to the .40 and now using...

Is the .45’s Stopping Power a Myth?

I actually prefer this round, 175mm out of a M107. The thought of a 147 Pound projectile leaving the muzzle at the same speed as a 147 grain bullet out of a M-14 always fascinated me. Not very accurate at charge 3 ( of powder) range, but I used them at 5-6 klicks and they were accurate enough...

Is the .45’s Stopping Power a Myth?

Heard the same about the M-16 in the Nam…that 5.56 bullet would hit in the arm, travel up the bone and blow the shoulder off. Never saw that in combat. IMO, the AK round did more damage. Unfortunately, saw too many other Marines who had been shot, including some of my team. Story to that...

    Control Your Battle Space

As a cop, long before we became social scientists, we were taught the C-clamp. Fingers and thumb around the trachea and squeeze. Worked every time for me. Course, we also were taught chokeholds, the bar arm and carotid. No taser, no tear gas, no portable radio…if you ran into s..t you had to...

Being Followed? What to Do When It Is Time to Shake a Tail

You know…the problem s that very few folks are aware enough f their surroundings to realize they are being followed. Just us paranoid people here!

When it comes down to it, what is your "go to" EDC?

Usually a Smith Model 38, Airweight Bodyguard, I bought in 1971. For more authority, I tend to carry a Firestar 40. Very compact, but heavy, absorbs the recoil well. Outdoors, can be anything from a Colt 357 to a 1911.

    Is Constitutional Carry a Mistake?

Gonna have to disagree with you. When police get n a shooting, it usually is very sudden and the target is usually moving and shooting back. When civilians get in a shooting, the distances are usually shorter, even VERY close. Harder to miss. Civilians also have the opportunity to...

    Mattel M16 Rifle

RVN 1969-70, USMC. M-16s we had were at best only so-so, very problematic. As a FO, and attached to a grunt company, I could get away with carrying whatever I wanted; over the year + time in country, I carried a Savage shotgun, M-3 grease gun and a M-2 carbine. The carbine was the best of the...

Being Followed? What to Do When It Is Time to Shake a Tail

On the other hand, being a PI, I worked with a friend whose car was set up for surveillance; individual lights, front and rear, could be switched off, same with turn signals, etc. At night , I imagine spitting a tail would be difficult.

    i feel he was disrespected

A lot here didn’t live thru the Carter regime. Yes, he did try to rehab himself thru Habitat for Humanity, for what that is worth. However, he really screwed over this country. People bitch about interest rates today. My house mortgage rate was 14.5%, food was really expensive and gas even...
