Pocket Pistol Practice (Doesn't Have To Be Punishment)

Agreed on the LCP. When I first got my LCP 10 years ago, I ran 200-300 rounds through in each of the first couple of sessions, breaking the gun in and getting used to it. It was not fun AT ALL! ;) The trigger starts wearing on my finger after that many rounds. My Springfields XDM's are so...

    Ammunition shortage winding down soon?

Yeah - I've been shopping parts for an AR build, and everything, if you can find it, is at least double what it was a year ago. Firearms are definitely higher, maybe not as much as ammo, but higher than it should be. The local gun shops (not the chains) here have ammo, but limits on how much...

    ATF's October Surprise

I knew of the Honey Badger issue, but didn't see where anyone else had yet posted a link to this article I just got in my email from the GOA: https://gunowners.org/rogue-secret-atf-interpretations-of-pistols-seek-to-undermine-president-trump-and-criminalize-gun-owners/

    When Did 7.62x39 Start Disappearing?

I was in my local gun shop last week, helping my 78 year old dad pick out a 9mm pistol, and 50 round boxes of 9mm were running $25 - the same box of Blazer Brass was $8 or $9 in January at the same shop. They had plenty however, with a 4 box limit. Hornady 9mm self defense ammo was $27 for a 25...

    When Did 7.62x39 Start Disappearing?

Yeah, all ammo is becoming less and less available, and prices keep going up, up, up.

XD-M Elite 3.8" Compact: The “Do Everything” 9mm?

I am so happy to see that Springfield has come back out with the XD-M Compact, in the Elite series, 2 years after killing it. My XD-M Compact in 9mm is a great all around pistol. I use it as a EDC with both IWB and OWB holsters with the 13 round flush mag, and use it with the extended mag as my...

Ammo Shortage May Last Until 2021

When I lived in the county, I only had a bit over an acre, and neighbors behind me, so it was not a good place to shoot, even though technically it could have been done. In the city limits where I live now, you cannot discharge a firearm except in a designated indoor or outdoor range.

Ammo Shortage May Last Until 2021

Due to ammo constraints, I am honestly thinking of finally picking up a laser dry fire practice system with 9mm and .380acp cartridges for it, so I can sit here and "plink" in the house. I've looked at several. Not sure how else to keep trigger discipline up when you can't get the ammo to keep...

Ammo Shortage May Last Until 2021

Well, sure sounds like most of my shooting in next calendar year will be with my stock of several thousand rounds of .22LR. Its not the same as shooting my EDC 9mm or .380acp, but at least it keeps up trigger discipline and marksmanship. I am supposed to help my dad pick out a 9mm in the next...

    Apple 🍏, or Android 🤖?

I carry an iPhone, and have since 2008 with the iPhone 3G. As a software developer and later engineering manager, I work with apps for both Android and iOS. So I have Android phones and tablets for testing apps on during development, as well as iOS phones and a couple of iPads. From a time...

    Review: Springfield Armory 911

I fully agree with you. I've carried an LCP in my front right pocket in a Super Fly for 9 years without issue. I have no concerns about lack of a safety, as the trigger is covered by a proper holster. Even if a pistol had a safety, I would not carry it just loose in my pocket. I find the...

Bought a brand new Hellcat today but how do I know what version/generation/year or series?

Be sure you do register for the warranty with Springfield - when you do so, they give you a one time opportunity to buy accessories such as magazines for half price. I loaded up with XDM magazines and a mag loader each time I got one of my XDM’s.

Best 6 Handguns for Bear Country

That ammo would put 10mm in a respectable 4th place behind .460 S&W (2800) .454 Casull (1800) and .44 Magnum (1400). I doubt you will find many automatic cartridges any better than the 10mm, that much is sure. My advice in all cases is to avoid grizzly and polar bears... the black bears in...

Best 6 Handguns for Bear Country

Not if you look at the ballistics towards the end of that article. The 10mm is down at 735 ft/lb's of muzzle energy - the 454 Casull is up around 1700-1800, and the 460 is up to 2800. HUGE difference in penetration on a large critter with a thicker hide than any human you will face.

First Look: Federal Premium Hydra-Shok Deep in .380acp

I'll have to keep an eye out for this ammo. It's now on my shopping list, as there are 2 380's in the family, loaded with Hornady XTP right now.

    Hellcat: 20K Rounds & Counting!

I keep a round chambered while carrying... with my XDM or Ruger LCP. The safety is the holster covering the trigger, and not having a finger on the trigger until you mean to fire. That said, I understand where you are coming from - you have that thumb safety ingrained as something to flip as...

    Hellcat: 20K Rounds & Counting!

Having both an XDM 5.25 and XDM 3.8 Compact, with both fitting the same 3 holsters, I can tell you that the 5.25 is a bit long to carry. Carrying OWB the barrel wants to peek out of even longer shirt tails, and carrying IWB is just not comfortable with that long of a barrel. I can carry the...

Remington Faces Bankruptcy Again, Acquisition From Navajo Nation

Remington opened a plant here in Huntsville, Alabama a number of years ago, and has been laying off and furloughing workers since they started having trouble in 2018 with their bankruptcy proceedings back then. Aside from a Remington shotgun, I've not ever used any of their other weapons.
