    Welcome Message

Springfield doesn't confirm or deny that they've dropped these things, but just take it off their website. That is what happened with the XDM Compact, and now the XD Mod 2. I imagine they are selling more Hellcats and XD-S pistols than they were XD Mod 2. The XDM Elite 3.8" is close in size to...

9mm XDM discontinued? Replaced with "Elite" model?

Something else to point out - with the improvements in the Elite, the MSRP also appears to have been lowered. The new XDM Elite Precision 5.25 has a MSRP of $653, and I am pretty sure when I got my XDM Competition 5.25 in 9mm two years ago that the MSRP was the same $779 they still show for the...

9mm XDM discontinued? Replaced with "Elite" model?

@taras333 yes it certainly appears that the original XDM is discontinued in 9mm. The XDM Elite will use your old magazines if you remove the detachable mag well. There is a discussion of that here: https://www.thearmorylife.com/forum/threads/peak-performance-the-new-xd-m-elite.285/page-2...

    Should I pick up another XD9 4” or 3”?

Personally, if you are confident the pistol will make it to you, I wouldn't buy another of the same exact firearm, unless you plan on carrying on both hips? ;) I know some like to have a training and a carry pistol in the same firearm, so there is some argument for that, if you plan on shooting...

Sellier & Bellot 9mm Makarov 95 Gr. FMJ

I've seen a few websites recently that sell ammo pull up the 9mm Makarov ammo when you search for 9mm Luger. Its very annoying, and I am sure a lot of folks don't know the difference and end up ordering it, as its one of the few "9mm" ammos in stock at these places.

    Welcome Message

Might be hard, as it appears that Springfield has quietly discontinued the XD Mod 2. I would expect that once inventory is depleted at resellers, the only option for a Mod 2 in 9mm will be used. Same thing happened to me with the XDM Compact - Springfield discontinued it maybe 18 months ago, so...

    What’s the XD Mod.2?

Interesting that the XD Mod 2 was featured in a Springfield article as recently as March, yet ALL models of the XD Mod 2 have disappeared from their website. I love my two XD-M's, but if I wanted the original XD series, the Mod 2 is the one I would want, specifically for the grip texturing...

    Rem Oil

I have a big spray can of Rem oil, and about the only time I've used it on a gun, it was when I was using it to spray/wash crap out of the trigger mechanism of a rifle I inherited that did not appear to have been cleaned since the 70's. Spray the Rem oil, then blow all the crap out with the air...

Comparing The Ruger LCP to the LCP II

I've got the LCP with a Lasermax laser, and you buy a pistol like that for size more than anything else. I would like the LCP II, but am not going to replace the LCP, as its not huge enough of a change. I prefer my XD-M Compact when apparel allows, and if I buy anything smaller than that, it...

    Rifle Iron Sights

I am one of those who has never quite gotten the hang of using a scope, as all I learned to shoot with was iron sights on a Daisy or Crossman pellet gun, or a 22 rifle. And my shotgun has NO sights, haha. I am still most comfortable with a rifle with iron sights...

    THE ONE-CARTRIDGE HOBBY: .357 MAGNUM

Yes, I misspoke. In fact, the .38-40 cartridge used by my Winchester 1873 was introduced as a rifle cartridge by Winchester, but quickly adopted as a handgun cartridge as well. I am not sure anyone knows why they developed the .38-40, versus the already existing .44-40. It is a cartridge that...

The Rimfire Report: Don’t Dry Fire Your Rimfire! Truth or Myth?

Well, I have always avoid dry firing my Ruger Mark II, aside from the fact that you MUST pull the trigger to de-cock it in order to disassemble it for cleaning. I just went through the manual, and it appears that dry firing is safe with the Mark II if and only if the "firing pin stop pin" is...

    XD-M Elite 3.8: Best EDC 9mm?

Haha I used to think that about my Ruger LCP - how would I conceal something bigger comfortably, being a late-middle-aged guy with a gut? I found that the XDM Compact (3.8" with shortened grip and flush 13 round mag) actually conceals very well and comfortably at about 4 o'clock using a...

    XD-M Elite 3.8: Best EDC 9mm?

Agreed, it should not be so hard to get a duty size EDC weapon that is optics ready, and you shouldn't have to spend $200 to get someone to mill the slide for one. I would like a red dot on my XDM 5.25 competition pistol, and unfortunately, due to the adjustable rear sight that was a reason I...

    XD-M Elite 3.8: Best EDC 9mm?

All of the Springfield polymer framed XD series of pistols are made in Croatia by HS Produkt - including the new Hellcat. HS Produkt had a good product on the market in Europe, and Springfield contracted them to customize it and rebrand it for Springfield for sales here in the US, and I am sure...

Federal Ammunition Introduces New Practice & Defend Packs

To me it would be better if they sold this ammo separately - maybe they do. I would want to shoot it at a rate of 500-1000 rounds of the practice ammo to 50 rounds of the carry ammo, ballistics and performance being the same. 50 rounds will about cover my XDM and a spare mag for carry. That...

Tested: Henry Big Boy X Defensive Lever Action Rifle

The Big Boy Classic in .357 is on my "wish list". The only thing I don't like about this new Big Boy X is that it cuts the capacity from 10 to 7 rounds. The Big Boy in .357 with that octogonal barrel would keep me from wanting to shoot my 140ish year old Winchester 1873. And the ammo would be...

    FROM PISTOL TOO CARBINE

My comment to that effect a while back when this thread started was due to the fact that if I got a PCC, it would be so that I could use both the pistol AND a PCC in USPSA competition, and that I would rather spend that $650 on a dedicated PCC, ending up with two firearms instead of one with...

    6 Great Pocket Pistols

Kind of ironic that they don't mention the LCP, which kind of revitalized interest in the small .380 pocket pistol category, back in 2008 - for several years, they were hard to find as they flew off dealers shelves. It's much more of a pocket pistol than the EC9s. Or the Keltec P-3AT, which...
