First Look: Springfield 1911 DS Prodigy 9mm

LOL… you know it. Probably shoots 1 inch groups at 100 yards strong hand only…with a strong cross breeze, up hill, barefoot.

    Red Dot for the 1911DS

Hammer, how does that Green Dot work for you outdoors…have you had a chance to try it? When I shot archery… I always like green indoors for target and 3D, but red outdoors as I always found green washed out a bit. I have not shot a pistol RMR style outdoors with a green dot, so was just curious.

Springfield Armory 1911DS Prodigy FF issues

Glad to hear. Sounds like you have the 5 inch Prodigy, I opted for the 4.25. Jam o magic for me… thought about going the self fix route, but for the price… I let SA handle it… and they did, perfectly. I couldn’t even get through 2-3 rounds in any of my 5 mags. After 2 weeks, a new sear...

First Look: Springfield 1911 DS Prodigy 9mm

RLB… this may sound like me being a smart ass…it’s not, promise. Let me know how slick and smooth that action is with a few hundred rounds down range when it gets dirtied up, if you don’t mind. Curious how it runs….

First Look: Springfield 1911 DS Prodigy 9mm

I really like the Bul Armory… but as said, can’t find them. In being honest, I wanted to get in at the ground floor with a Prodigy in the 1911 DS world. My next step…if I decide to get another in the safe, would probably be a Stacatto P w/ Optic Cut.

First Look: Springfield 1911 DS Prodigy 9mm

I wasn’t sure how I’d like mine, I feel I shot my Legion X5 pretty darn well at the range and outdoors. But the more trigger time I get with my prodigy…it really does shine. I do have a little drag on the disconnector. One day, I may just get an EGW ignition kit just because. But for now, I’ll...

    Red Dot for the 1911DS

DPP on two of my pistols (Legion X5 and S&W Competitor) and a Holosun 407C on my Prodigy. No issues with any. Range toys so far, not torture tested or competed with. I will say this.. I hear all the noise about battery life on the DPP. I got 5K plus rounds on mine on my X5. Had the pistol a...

First Look: Springfield 1911 DS Prodigy 9mm

Here’s what I know.. I frankly don’t care enough to argue with anyone on the internet about my own trigger pull weight, regardless of how I got it and what I did to get there. Here’s what I do care about… If the money and time I spent on my guns, my tools, my ammo, my range time.. made me...

First Look: Springfield 1911 DS Prodigy 9mm

I will say…if you forget to deactivate the grip safety when pulling the trigger to test, you may get to 8 or 9 lbs before you realize….you forgot to squeeze the grip. I was told that by a friend, in no way, shape or form would I ever forget to do such thing…. LOL.

I **Think** that may only be for the digital grade scales. I got the basic analog with slider… :)

First Look: Springfield 1911 DS Prodigy 9mm

Yeah, I doubted my manual wheeler gauge a bit… I took a 3lb and 5lb weight, lifted each very, very slowly to the point it just left the table. Both weights listed 1 ounce lighter on the scale than claimed weight…so I know the gauge is good. I hate the hook on the gauge, very tough to use on...

    Dawson Precision Magwell for Prodigy

Good news.. have a range trip planned Thursday night, doubt it’ll be here in time, but..that just means a Saturday or Sunday range trip as well.. LOL. Wheel, thanks for the pin tip, that’s actually what I was thinking of doing to make it easy, appreciate the confirmation!

First Look: Springfield 1911 DS Prodigy 9mm

RLB, it’s prodigy is my first 1911. I’ve always done my own work on my guns and always had striker fired, Sigs, M&P and Glocks. It’s simple, promise. Take your time, have the video queued up in case you get stuck…keep a nice clean, organized work area. The sear spring has a little tang at the...

First Look: Springfield 1911 DS Prodigy 9mm

Here you go… watch the shortcuts he takes to check and recheck (leaves the beaver tail out, just puts the pin in enough to hold the main spring housing in place.. Now, here’s what I’ll say, the hardest part for me? Getting the manual safety off. Man, it was a bear…but my trick was to put...

First Look: Springfield 1911 DS Prodigy 9mm

RLB, You can fix the trigger weight in about 30 minutes, taking your time. I did mine. It was 5.5 or so, it’s at 3 now. Atlas gun works has a GREAT video on how to adjust the spring. Take your time, try it…try it some more… it’l go to 3 or so easily. Once back together, check all three...

    Dawson Precision Magwell for Prodigy

Simon, when mine arrives, I’ll do a bit of a write up on how/where it hits, actions taken to get it to fit. I’m not above a little file, a little finesse to get it to work. But I’m not the guy to take a 2x4 to it and sledge hammer with duct tape either. LOL.
