Driving with a Handgun: Best Practices

The article states: "According to Texas law, a handgun must be in a 'shoulder or belt holster.' A magnetic mount is not considered a holster. That means that leaving your handgun in a magnetic mount in your car is akin to leaving it in plain sight without a holster — a violation of Texas Law...

"Concealed Carry Class" - book by Tom Givens

Ollies has stores all over the country. I wonder if they sell this book in the states where guns are greatly restricted. I mean, to sell this book in all of their stores means that they are selling a ton of books. They would have to have bought the whole lot of unsold books from the publisher...

    2021 NRA Convention is Cancelled

I was actually referring to Wayne Lapierre being the perpetual VP of the NRA, yet being the one who actually calls the shots. He should just call himself the Chairman and be done with it - it would be more honest than calling himself the VP.

    2021 NRA Convention is Cancelled

I find it interesting that he is the "Vice President", yet it is clear that he has more power in the organization than even the "President". "Chairman" would be a more honest title.

    Lethal Force Vs Pepper Spray

One of the greatest things about our government is that it is "of the people, by the people, for the people"; at least that was the original intent. A key aspect of this is that the people have the right to keep and bear arms. You can actually be armed in order to have a fighting chance...

"Concealed Carry Class" - book by Tom Givens

If you have $8 and change to spend, get down to your local Ollie's store and get a copy of Tom Givens' Concealed Carry Class: The ABCs of Self-Defense Tools and Tactics. Book retails for $27.99. There is a lot of really good, practical information in this book. Here's a great quote from...

    2021 NRA Convention is Cancelled

Bummer: https://home.nra.org/announcements/important-announcement-nra-annual-meeting-cancellation/ It was to be my first; I hope it will not be the last. I was looking forward to meeting some of my heroes: Massad Ayoob, Sootch00, Colion Noir, Chris Baker "The Lucky Gunner", The Firearm Guy...

Concealed carry for a bass guitarist

Of course, no one has asked if a heavy bass guitar, resting against your key fob in your pocket, would have some sort of adverse effect on your key fob, or on your wristwatch if it is in your pocket. But that's for another blog, another time...

Ho Chi Bear and the Ravens

"Secret war" - God help you if you get captured. You don't officially exist, so that's the end of you.

Concealed carry for a bass guitarist

Here's something I think I'll try -- an anti-vibration pad: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Powermate-4-in-x-4-in-x-1-2-in-Vibration-Isolator-094-0137RP/202593096#overlay I'll affix it to the back side of my bass, and I believe this will satisfy all of my concerns. It will absorb the vibrations...

Concealed carry for a bass guitarist

As I mentioned before, I play in church. Not much jumping around there. Even if I do jump around, a big advantage of pocket carry is that it is very difficult for the gun to fall out of my pocket. As for why I carry when I play, you never know when some nut job might come in the church and...

Concealed carry for a bass guitarist

BassCliff: Thanks for your response, and welcome to yet another gun blog! It seems I'm constantly working out / resolving / refining yet one more detail with regard to carrying. I have worked out just about all details with regard to carrying in my right front pants pocket, except for when I...

    Guided-bullet technology

I think this new technology is great. But I hope it doesn't lead to these snipers losing their ability to home in on the target using old-school methods. You need to be able to get the job done the old fashioned way if the automatic, hi-tech methods aren't working for whatever reason.

Concealed carry for a bass guitarist

I play in church, not in clubs, so I don't think I'll have a problem with state law, such as the law that prohibits carrying in a place that primarily sells alcohol. In fact, in my state, as long as your church is in agreement with your carrying, you can carry while in church. My church has no...

Concealed carry for a bass guitarist

I use a Sticky Holster when I pocket carry. I actually used to carry my Ruger in my left pocket. It worked out very well, until I thought about what I would do if I had to draw and fire for real, especially if I had to load my spare magazine - I think it would be too awkward to pull off...

Concealed carry for a bass guitarist

Here's an interesting thought that I'll bet a lot of you never thought about - concealed carrying while playing the bass guitar. I carry in my front right pants pocket. This is the ideal carry spot for me, except for one thing: I play the bass guitar, and the heavy bass rests on top of my gun...

Driving with a Handgun: Best Practices

I'm thinking that I should carry my gun in my lap, between my legs, in a pocket holster, while I drive. Then back in the pocket before I exit the vehicle. The only problem I can see with doing it this way is if I eat while driving - I don't want any food or drink to get on my gun. The way I...

What Ammo do You Carry and Why?

I carry Spear Gold Dot 124 grain hollow point 9mm (not +p) in my Beretta, because when I was having failures to feed in my Beretta, that was the one bullet that would ALWAYS work. Now that I have fixed the FF problem, I still carry that same round, because I figure it gives me the best chance...

    Are Single-Stack Pistols Extinct?

I have gone back and forth between my Ruger (thin) and my Beretta (thick). I think with certain clothes (e.g. dress clothes for the office), I wouldn't be able to carry the Beretta, because it would be too noticeable. Generally I wear jeans, so that's not an issue. But the thicker gun is...
