Cocking the pistol puts the hammer strut into full compression-not the correct way to remove. It would be a good move to go to You Tube and find videos on the full disassembly of the 1911-this would be the easiest way to learn how it's done. There are several tricks to assembly and disassembly...

I crimp most everything I load-either a roll crimp or taper-depending on what's being loaded of coarse-but I find crimping no mystery.

I think they are very tight from all that talks about them-may need a full grown man and a small boy to do the pushing. My Dad has done 2 of the XDM 5.25 so he replaced rear sight with a optics plate.
