    Massacre at Fort Mims/Creek War

A good read. I like reading about our early history; specially about the Ohio Valley (I am from west central Ohio) where Tecumseh and the Shawnee lived. The Creek were fighting for their land and their way of life. I imagine we would fight just as hard to keep ours. As for the atrocities...

    Light peening Slide stop notch

I should Clarify; I bought this used in a private purchase (face to face as we are in the same state / area) from a member of another unrelated forum who I have had other dealings with. I did look it over and I am almost 100% sure it was not showing peening at that time. If it did I would...

I think that is good advice.

    Light peening Slide stop notch

Here are better photos I took; keep in mind they enlarge things. I will look at the slide stop next as I plan to file the notch in it for easier assembly anyway.

    Light peening Slide stop notch

That looks good to me. Mine is similar with the exception of a very slight raised metal along the rear edge where the slide stop contacts it to hold the slide open. I am just going to keep an eye on it as I think it will be self limiting. I'll only worry if it gets worse and if it does I'll...

    Light peening Slide stop notch

Springfield uses a 9 lb recoil spring in their 5 inch 9mm 1911's. Since I don't use 115 grain loads and the factory Range and serious ammo I use is 124 grain at 1181 to 1220 fps I changed it out to a 12 lb recoil spring. It may be a tad heavy and I am considering a drop to 10 or 11 lb...

    Light peening Slide stop notch

The takedown notch has no raised material though. My Son-in-Law likes Glocks but they do nothing for me. My preferences run to nicely machined metal, steel preferably and nice wood.

    Light peening Slide stop notch

Thank you for the input. It appears to be a normal thing to occur so I will leave it alone and won't worry over it. When I post it is because I am attempting to learn something. I like the 1911 platform but have not had one for almost 40 years and then it was a .45 Colt Series 70. While I...

    Light peening Slide stop notch

Wow; What a snide condescending response but that seems to be on par for you I have noticed.. My advice to you is if you don't have something constructive to say; stay out of the conversation. I ask questions because I don't know. It has been a long time since I was anything but a revolver...

    Light peening Slide stop notch

My Ronin (9mm 5") shows some light peening on the slide stop notch. Very slight but it can be felt. Questions: Is this common? Causes? Is it self limiting? Leave it alone or address? Lightly tap raised material back flat or stone and touch up? I have had one range session with this one...

    Flush 9mm 1911 magazine recommendations

Tripp Cobra does not show a Flush base magazine. I went with another Wilson 920-9FS9

    Magazine Springs - 9mm 1911

The Wilson's I have are the flush base which are the same as the Chip McCormick flush base mags. Only difference are one says Wilson Combat (Item 920-9FS9) and the other says Chip McCormick Custom (Item M-MG-9FS9) I believe Wilson did this to have a flush base magazine for those wo want them.

    Magazine Springs - 9mm 1911

OK; I got a lot of good info from the Recoil spring post so I thought I would ask about magazine springs. 9mm 1911 magazines, I have all 9 round magazines; stock Springfield and Wilson 920 (same as CMC) flush. I figure I'll need to replace springs down the road. one of the Wilson's first as...

Bullet Seating - Where are the Lands?

It depends on the rifle and it's use. Freebore or no freebore. Magazine length restrictions. When loading for my 40X-BR live varmint / benchrest rifle (single shot) I likes them to be no more than 0.020 off the lands. I believe I was loading them 0.010 off but that was quite a while back. I...

    Recoil Springs

Even the OEM's don't agree Kimber and STI appear to use 12#, Colt uses 14#, Wilson appears to use 13# flat wire, Dan Wesson Seems to use a 10 or 12# and Springfield uses a 9# ( I am wondering if this is a throwback to when they used the ILS Housing with it's 28# mainspring) This seems to...

    Recoil Springs

That was in the ILS Mainspring housing; They use a standard non-ILS MSH in the Ronin (and I believe other 1911's now) I am pretty sure SA is using a 23# mainspring in the non ILS MSH's) My question is specific to the 5" 9mm. Recommendations: Stay with the 12? Go back to the 9# or drop back...

    Recoil Springs

A question again on recoil springs. In particular Recoil springs in a 9mm full size 1911. Per Wolff Gunsprings: COLT 1911 FACTORY RECOIL SPRING NOTES 1. Factory rating for super .38 & 9mm is 14 Lbs. 2. Factory rating in .40 S&W is 19 Lbs. 3. Factory rating for the Colt .38 Spl...
