    Taking the plunge tomorrow

Good luck and enjoy the new job (I'm just assuming you'll get it).

    First Look! New Springfield Ronin

I had a friend in high school whose last name was Hoppe. He pronounced it "Hop-EE".

OK, you bought what you wanted, is it as good or better than you thought?

Smith and Wesson 686. It was my first double action and it shoots beautifully. HK VP9. It was the first polymer pistol I bought and I wasn't sure what to expect. I was sold after the first magazine.

Is Your Winter Car Kit Really Ready?

I keep an impact driver with appropriate sockets for quick tire changes, some non-perishable food, flares, hand and foot warmers, cold weather gear, space blanket, some car repair tools, jump pack, hatchet and knife, fire starters and a shovel in my winter kit. Here in the north we might...

    Lever rifle for SD

I'm sure it did, but I do doubt it was a large focus.

    Lever rifle for SD

Sure, but I'd rather use a 1911 in my home if it came down to using old tech. I'm sure the venerable 30-30 was fantastic as an "assault" in 1898, but I also doubt CQB was much of a thing. Honestly I'd rather use my Garand over a lever gun. Longer and harder to whip around but easier to reload.

    Lever rifle for SD

Oh I love lever guns. They're fantastic for many things. I just don't think I could see myself with a red dot and a bunch of "tactical" crap on one, stalking around corners to deal with intruders.

    Lever rifle for SD

Why does everything have to be a "self defense" weapon now? Lever guns are great for short-range hunting and I have a .45/70 brush gun for places where there be big bear, why can't we just leave it at that? There are weapons suited for self defense and a lever gun is not once of them. The...

Must-Have Spice Blends That Culinary Experts Swear By

I only use regular salt when baking. Otherwise it's all kosher or sea salt.

    Holy picky Saint!

Interesting, I'll look into that. It is weird to me it shoots well with 147s and 165s, but sucks with 150s. Just a finicky rifle, I guess.

    Holy picky Saint!

That's the cartridge overall length. Standard for a .308 Win.

    Holy picky Saint!

Nope, the reloaded 147s and 150s are both boattails. I can't speak to the factory rounds. Maybe it is the gas, as Bassbob suggested. I'll have to investigate that.

    Saint Edge ATC Scope recomendation?

Tango4 1-4 on my Saint. It works fine for my purposes.

    Holy picky Saint!

I put my Victor .308 through some ammunition tests today. It did great with 147gr FMJ and 4064, terrible with 150gr FMJ from 3 brands and a handload with IMR 4895, and great with two different well-made 165gr rounds using both 4064 and IMR 4895, all at 2.800. Good lord that's a picky rifle. 3...

    Morning tea, watching it snow

I'm sitting around with a hot drink listening to the neighbor shovel his driveway. I'll mosey on over to the shop in a little bit to finish assembling a couple Christmas orders. I'm looking forward to some skiing, too. Hopefully soon.

    Machining

I think Grizzly makes a gunsmith's lathe, gear specifically toward people who want to do barrels and such things. I think they're made in China but not bad quality.

    Cali tries it again

The Constitution doesn't say a lot of things but the Court decided they're on the "penumbra" and are therefore constitutionally protected just like any other right. Privacy, for instance. I'll look for the UCLA interview.

    Cali tries it again

Do you have any sources I can read? I'm very curious about this issue. I thought everything about the Texas law was unconstitutional but SCOTUS seems fine with looking the other way.

    Machining

Oh a lathe would be great for barrels and firing pins, no question about that.
