    Component Shortages

Hey if all else fails, I have a 44 cap and ball with all the necessary components that I have never shot. May have to dig it out of the safe.;)

    Component Shortages

A big problem here in Michigan is that primers are getting as rare as Hen's teeth. I notice one reloading company put out an add for powder, brass, bullets and primers. They give credit from the items towards purchase of their loaded ammo. You know things are tight when a manufacturer can not...

Is a revolver a good carry gun?

I carried revolvers off and on duty during my 32 year career as a law enforcement officer. I still carry my engraved Model 49 S&W on occasion as my EDC. I quite often recommend a four inch revolver for newbies as a home defense gun as there is not as much to remember. Once it is loaded you...

Purchasing an M1 Garand From the CMP: My Experience and How-To

Purchased a Springfield M1 Garand from. CMP several years ago. It was made in 1941. Metal was in pristine condition but stock was a little dinged up. This rifle shoots great. Grandson shot it a few years ago and he loved it too.

This Old Gun: Smith & Wesson .455 Hand Ejector

I always liked these old revolvers but have never owned one. They are the epitome of the classic double action revolver. May have to check around and add one to the collection. ;)

    New RO Target

22 MM might be interesting but would be a bear to carry. 😉

    Best 3 “combat” handguns

I would have to choose these from what I currently own: Glock 20 10 MM Sig 226. 9 MM AMT Hardballer in 45 ACP Runner up would be Glock 30 with Glock 21. 13 round 45 ACP magazine. Sig 226 is what I carried as a duty gun for a number of years.

The .44 Special: History and Performance

The 44 S&W Special is a joy to shoot. My Dan Wesson 445 Supermag shoots 445 Supermag, 44 Magum and 44 Special. The 44 Spl is a very mild, accurate round. I also carried a Charter Arms 44 Spl Bulldog for a while which gave a good punch in a small package. For those with a 44 Magnum it is good...

    S&W K38

I had a K-38 six inch that was 1957 vintage. Presented it to my daughter on her 21st birthday a few years ago. One of the most accurate and fun wheel guns I have ever owned.

Best 6 Handguns for Bear Country

I have carried large frame revolver and semi-autos as bear medicine in Alaska. Used my Dan Wesson 445 Supermag loaded with 300 grain hard cast loads. Last couple of years have carried Glock 20 10 MM with 6 inch barrel using Buffalo Bore rounds in a chest rig. I felt comfortable that both...

Bowling with a Pistol? A Guide to Pin Shooting

Have not fired a pin match in a couple of years but a local club held them up until Covid. I even managed to earn prize money now and then. Definitely a lot of fun for all and good practice.

    Black Hills Ammunition.

Have to agree with you on the Black Hills Ammunition. Their 168 grain 308 Winchester shoots amazingly out of my Remington 700 target rifle. Results in three shot group within three inches at 500 meters if I do my part. :)

This Old Gun: Smith and Wesson Model 49 Bodyguard

I love my S&W Model 49. It was my back-up and off duty since the early 1970s. As you can see from the pictures it is a little scratched up. ;)

Firearm Training: Dry Fire Training to Improve Defensive Handgun Skills

A very good article on dry firing. Unfortunately firing a handgun is a perishable skill. Dry firing is the most economical way to reinforce those necessary skills of trigger control and sight alignment especially with the increasing cost of ammunition. Dry firing is something we encouraged...

Is Full Auto Useful for Home Defense

Yes a full auto will put out a lot of rounds in a short period of time. Accuracy with full auto takes a lot of practice. Just remember you are responsible for each round you fire. I would definitely not recommend full auto for home defense.

What Color Front Sight is Best

I seem to see yellow front sights the best. Long before fiber optics I had a yellow insert installed on front sight of my duty S&W Model 19. I also put yellow front sights on my Dan Wesson revolvers. The yellow seems to show up the best on all color backgrounds. Just my two cents. :)
