    The M1903 Springfield Rifle

Really great article on classic '03! I always wanted one but price was too expensive when I finally got around to it. I have owned several 1917 Enfields and I love those rifles. My go to rifle for hunting for a number of years was a 1914 Enfield converted to 7 MM Magnum by Century Arms. Just...

What Is the Maximum Effective Range of .308?

I don't necessarily agree with the author A friend of mine has routinely made one shot kills on whitetails at 400 to 500 yds for years. Mu own Remington 700 308 although it is a target rifle will consistently print 3 shot 3 inch groups at 500 meters (550 yds) if I do my part using Black Hills...

Skinner Sights: Accuracy, Tradition And Trust

Skinner sights are good sights. My son in Alaska. has them as back up sights on several of his dangerous game rifles. Included are several big bore levers.

Should I carry a spare magazine

I had a Mec-Gar magazine for my AMT Hard Baller .45 ACP 1911, a few years ago. I was demonstrating a drill for our police recruits with the new magazine when the magazine literally fell apart. Needless to say I threw it away. I will never own another Mec-Gar magazine.

Anyone own a Remington 700? I may be buying one here pretty soon

I have a Remington 700 in .308 Winchester. It was built for me my son in Alaska. He put it in a target stock, the heavy barrel was bedded, a Jared target trigger installed, and equipped with an SWFA Supersniper 16X scope. Using factory Black Hills 168 gr BT HP ammunition the rifle will...

Cartridge of the Week: The .22 Hornet

A great. accurate cartridge. Only have T/C barrel left in the caliber now but have had several rifle that I sadly sold off over the years. Son used the T\C in 22 Hornet for snowshoe rabbits when he went to college in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

Wearing a hat to the range

When I was a police academy firarms instructor, we required recruits wear hats, glasses and hearing protection as part of their safety equipment. We suggested they button their collars. Only took once time of hot brass going down their shirt for them to accept that advice. 😁

    M1?

I got my M1 through the CMP a few years back. Abit of paperwork and usually a few months wait. I am very happy with my Springfield M1 that was made in 1941. Metal and bore were great but wood had a few dings. Comes in nice CMP plastic case. Shoots great and a hoot to shoot.

Couple of questions on SA guns.

I installed Rock River National Match triggers on two of my ARs. Really like those triggers. Not as expensive as some but a joy to shoot. Just my 2 cents.

    New barrel for Bushmaster Varminter

He may also want to take a good look at his bore and make sure it is not copper fouled. Buddy had similar problem with his F-class target rifle. Upon close inspection found he cleaned it well but did not clean out copper fouling.

    New barrel for Bushmaster Varminter

Might also want to go with an adjustable gas block. Depending on what caliber you go to it can take away a lot of problems.

What Is the Best AR Caliber for Hunting?

Good article but they left out the .277 Wolverine. It is a .223/5.56 shortened and then necked out to .277. It uses 6.8/270 bullets from 90 to 105 grains. It is loaded commercially but is hard to find and most users handload. A lot of good information is available through...

Cartridge of the Week: The .45 Long Colt

Good article on one of my favorite cartridges! This is mirrored in my last three firearm purchases, a Ruger Vaquero, Ruger Blackhawk Bisley and a Rossi lever action. All are in .45 Long Colt. I also have a .45 Long Colt barrel for my T/C Contender.
