Self Defense - outside the home vs staying inside

I understand what most instructors think. It sort of depends (like a lot of things). I would really have to struggle not to go outside if someone was in my driveway trying to break into my car.

    this months Dillon cover model

Thanks for the link, old_me. About the time I am ready to give up on the “younger generation,” a youngster like this pops up.

    Open carry

Around my area, most open carry folks tend to be younger, maybe late 20’s or early to mid 30’s. It could be that they are maybe a little uneducated about holster retention. Or (and I think this is more likely), they consider themselves tough enough and quick enough to stave off any threat and...

Firearm Safety and Shooting Skills for Children: A Family-Oriented Guide

Thanks for the link, Anni. Julie Golob has published a book about the same thing. Important stuff!

    Open carry

Well it sounds like you and your wife were very tactful in pointing out to the dude that what he was doing was careless and maybe deadly. The old guy was helpful too. Maybe he will go home and do a little research.

Med School Researchers Conclude Gun Control Has No Impact on Homicide Rates

Based strictly on empirical evidence, I believe a lot of folks change their beliefs about gun control after they have been the victim of violent crime. Probably incorrect, but I call behavior like that situational ethics. Doing a “scientific” study then refuting your own findings isn’t science.

Self-Defense and the Law: Is Shooting Long-Distance in Defense Defensible in Court?

Practicing at longer distances is challenging. But longer range practice can really humble me sometimes! Being off just a wee bit can be off a whole lot by the time the bullet gets to the target!

    Revolvers ?

True! I had to back off a little (actually a lot!) shooting a 642 with just .38 special loads (no +P) when my wrists started bothering me. Unlike Clint in the article, my elbows held up okay. :). I am trying to decide whether or not I should have been more focused on keeping my wrists rigid...

    Revolvers ?

Thanks for the link, Javbike. I like revolvers, but then again like Clint said in the article, the hair I have left is pretty much all gray. :). Tom Givens published a “Snubby Drill” a while back and I gave it a whirl. I can shoot my plastic gun more accurately, but then again I can shoot a...

DEI hire or lack of training?

Obviously, additional instruction is needed. I personally despise the hiring of unqualified people (and the term DEI), but I blame this poor performance on the instruction. Reminds me of school teachers who send kids to the next grade just so they won’t have them the next year. I completely...

    Officers Down in America

I wasn’t aware until today that law enforcement who are NRA members are entitled to. $35,000 “NRA Law Enforcement Officer Line of Duty Death Benefit” for their families. What a nice benefit! I hope all of the officers Hayes listed in this thread so far were NRA members.

    Officers Down in America

So sad, Hayes. Thanks for posting this. Felon out on parole! The parole board needs to be disciplined!
