Prodigy Mags - I don't think they're supposed to do this...

After action range report: All 3 Staccato mags ran through 200rds flawlessly. SA Mags wont even get through 20rds without a failure. Now what the heck do I do with the Prodigy mags. I clearly don't want to use them as they are causing all of my issues. Will SA even do anything?

First Look: Springfield 1911 DS Prodigy 9mm

No... ugh. Still 'Awaiting Fulfillment' on the order status page as of today.

First Look: Springfield 1911 DS Prodigy 9mm

I wish they included a spare fiber optic rod with the gun. I actually got several spares with my XD a couple years ago, along with a lock and several other items. Seems like a lot of manufacturers are forgoing any spare items with the gun now a days.

Prodigy Mags - I don't think they're supposed to do this...

I might be getting into the nitty gritty a bit here, but honestly it's pretty interesting. I received my 20rd Staccato mags today and upon picking one up I could have sworn it was heavier than the Prodigy mag. I weighed both and sure enough, the Prodigy SA 20rd mag is 107grams and the Staccato...

I would appreciate a report from you when you do end up getting a chance to use it :)

First Look: Springfield 1911 DS Prodigy 9mm

Welcome to the forums and also as a fellow Prodigy owner. I had 1k+ rounds before I sent mine in but they did a nice job on it, only gone 10 days from the time I dropped it off till it was back at my door. Do you happen to own a Staccato mag by chance? (REALLY long shot but you never know)

Prodigy Mags - I don't think they're supposed to do this...

From testing, it seems like the tapping is a good practice to have or adopt. Several people have had problems with the stock mags, then tested other manufacturers mags with the and had good results. I'm inclined to agree the mags are causing some (not all) peoples failures. Especially since I...

Prodigy Mags - I don't think they're supposed to do this...

Yea, I talked to a few guys at the range after going through this today and some do, some don't. I haven't until now, but then again I never had a feeding issue with other mags. Probably a good habit to have anyway. Will build it into my routine.

Prodigy Mags - I don't think they're supposed to do this...

I also forgot to mention that the Staccato mag seems a bit more 'polished', especially the feed lips. (see below) Feed lips are a bit more rounded than the SA mags and are a bit more 'flared'. The one big difference is how much smoother the finish on the Staccato mag is, inside and out. The...

Prodigy Mags - I don't think they're supposed to do this...

Alright! Update time. Upon loading and reloading some mags over this week to test a theory (as well as receiving the 17rd Staccato mag) I found that using an UpLula causes the rounds to nose dive into the inside of the mag and press against it, making the rounds stick as they come up. Today at...

First Look: Springfield 1911 DS Prodigy 9mm

Thanks, but before I buy, I want to at least hold one and see how it feels. Don't even need to test fire, just want to have it in my hand. If I like how it feels, I'd buy it.

I've been looking at the TAC Ultra in 9mm but no one has it. Really want to get my hands on one just to see how it is.

    Project Prodigy 2.0

I've thrown this idea around in my head too... To get a second Prodigy; probably used, and just kind of replace parts to make it a real custom job. Different spring, trigger, extractor, disconnector, etc. See what can be done with it and see how much of a difference other parts make it feel...

Firearm Malfunctions — Hang Fires and Duds

Had a semi-dud I guess? from Murica brand 9mm 115gr ammo. I will never use that ammo again. It's like a flamethrower coming out of the front of the gun when it works properly. The range I go to sells it, but I asked the guys there about it and they said "Don't use it, it's bad." (Then why...

Prodigy Mags - I don't think they're supposed to do this...

Agreed. I also have a very low serial # and the bottom of my 20rd mag says 1911 DS while the one I bought separately says 2011 DS.

Prodigy Mags - I don't think they're supposed to do this...

I checked the followers and nothing like SimonRL had. I did actually smooth some sharp edges out a little and they slid up and down the mag a bit better, but still didn't fix the issue. Bit annoying that the mags aren't working right but this isn't the first gun I've had that the mags were...

Prodigy Mags - I don't think they're supposed to do this...

The 17rd mag that came with the gun has some failures but not nearly as much as the 20rd that came with it. ONLY the two that came with it are having issues. I purchased a separate 20rd mag and it works fine - zero issues. I just snagged a 17rd Staccato mag from Dawson so we'll see how that...

Prodigy Mags - I don't think they're supposed to do this...

Went to the range today, put another 150rd through and here's the final verdict: The stock mags that came with the gun are junk. New springs didn't alleviate the problem at all. Will be calling SA for replacements as I'm done messing around with them. The 20rd I bought separately continues to...

Prodigy Mags - I don't think they're supposed to do this...

Update! I purchased some Dawson Precision STI/Staccato springs for the 17rd and 20rd mags. Put them in and instantly saw a massive difference when loading rounds. The springs are perfectly straight and zero issues with rubbing on the insides of the mags now. No sticking at all. Picture for a...
