Springfield Hellcat Review: Best CCW 9mm Ever

This weekend I shot my son's 43X using my own loads customized for my Honor Guard 9. He laughed, and I was immensely saddened by the result. I've NEVER shot smaller groups. Of course my son gleefully pointed it out, then insisted on saving the target to show his mom (my loving wife). Shooting...

Reloading ammunition in 10 easy steps.

Nice basic overview of the process with enough warnings and cautions to remind us all that while reloading cartridges CAN be done safely, there are numerous steps along the way that can get one into trouble in a hurry. Don't take shortcuts! Never assume anything!

Reloading cost vs. factory bought, handgun and rifle

Easily done for less than $10 a box with quality jacketed bullets, even at current prices. I overpaid for Federal Match primers, just to conduct an experiment. So primers 4.3 cents, bullets 10 cents, cases essentially free...yes they cost if you buy them, but by the time you’re on your 6th load...

Reloading cost vs. factory bought, handgun and rifle

I have good control on most cost items. Haven’t tried any cast bullets. That may be the nugget.

Reloading cost vs. factory bought, handgun and rifle

Stress is a major factor in my reloading decision. It is a tremendous stress reliever. Grandkids making too much noise...got to your (reloading) room. Covid-19 lockdown got you anxious...go to your room. Can't find any good ammo anywhere...go to your room. I started out handguns only (9mm...

Reloading cost vs. factory bought, handgun and rifle

I have a number of reloading apps on my iPad, but my favorite is probably Reloading Assistant. It has a handy calculator set up to calculate reloading costs for you. Enter the variables (bullets, primers, powder, charge weight, cases) and it spits out cost per quantity. Next it has fields to...

Reloading cost vs. factory bought, handgun and rifle

Many responses are apples and oranges. If you are looking to reload to save money, then you need to just keep buying your cheap, junk ammo. The amortization of the necessary equipment to load reliable ammo runs into the thousands of rounds. It'll likely happen in your lifetime, but the upfront...

First Range Trip - FDE Hellcat

The ammo was proprietary, loaded with 124gr JHP from Everglades Ammo. Everything was shot free hand to 7yds. Groups were as good or better than I typically shoot...clearly, the gun is capable of exceeding my ability.

    New Hellcat feeding issues

I took my new Hellcat to the range for the first time today. It fed and fired everything I gave it, including rounds that my Honor Guard 9 couldn’t fire. Both the 13 and the 11 round magazines fed flawlessly. I’m guessing the highly polished feed ramp contributed to my satisfying experience...

First Range Trip - FDE Hellcat

I can’t believe that I actually made it through the weekend without a range trip. Finally, I gathered up my Hellcat and 3 other 9mm pistols (Honor Defense Honor Guard, Taurus G2C, and Kimber Micro 9), and hit the range. Naturally, first course was 2 boxes of Sellior & Bellot 115gr FMJ. I had...

1911EMP length w beavertail for CC

Okay....the best I can get is 6.624” from Beavertail to end of barrel on EMP40. This is longer than my caliper, so the excess beyond 6.6” is rough. I tried again using markings on my bench top and got 6.606”. So it’s definitely between 6.606” and 6.624”. Mine is the 1911 EMP LW COMPACT SS .40...

Should Concealed Carry Rookies Appendix Carry

What holster did you end up ordering? I’m waiting for a MASC holster that I ordered on Amazon. It’s made in Turkey. I have one for my Kimber Master Carry Pro and it is beautiful, fits like a glove, and very reasonably priced. Only thing, they ship directly from Istanbul, so it won’t be here for...

    911 vs. Hellcat

Received my Hellcat FDE yesterday. Have only dry-fired it. Trigger feels awesome. Short reset. Can't wait to take her to the range...even if she isn't FDE. Looks like OD Green to me.

    Received my Hellcat FDE Today

Actually, I didn’t use a flash. Basically, I don’t have a unique pistol then, and neither of our Hellcats are FDE.

    Received my Hellcat FDE Today

Yeah...maybe it always shoots straight, even when my aim is off!

    Received my Hellcat FDE Today

Thanks for the suggestion. I sent off an inquiry to Springfield-Arsenal moments ago. If this turns out to be a pre-release of the OD Green pistol, I’ll offer to trade it for a FDE OSP model. Ji ji ji

    Received my Hellcat FDE Today

Mixed feelings today... Happiness, received my Hellcat ahead of schedule...gotta love USPS Priority Shipping. Sadness, paid $75 FFL transfer...totally wiping out all savings on purchase. Was expecting to buy a $100 gift card and get free transfer...but rules change in this crazy new...

    911 vs. Hellcat

I have 911s and I have Kimbers. The Micro 9 is my current carry pistol 90% of the time. That said, if the trigger of the 9mm version of the 911 is anything like the trigger on the 911 380s, then I would definitely get the 911 9mm. The Kimber triggers are much like any SA 1911, short, crisp, very...

    911 vs. Hellcat

I have 2 911s in .380ACP, and my FDE Hellcat is expected later this week. Don't have a 911 in 9mm, but went for the Hellcat instead, just because. However, my recent experience with Striker Fired pistols has me definitely rethinking my stance. One issue that I haven't had to deal, until now, is...

First Look: Desert FDE Hellcat 9mm

Got notice last night that my FDE Hellcat shipped. Expected at FFL on Thursday. I'll see how long it takes to get the call. My usual FFL wasn't on the approved list, yet again. Thankfully, there are options.
