Update 03/01/2020.....Tumblers..... Going round and round!

I’ve never tried to see how short a period I could run it. I just turn the timer dial to 3 and let it run. I watch for a few rotations to ensure it’s not leaking, then I walk away. Three hours later I pick it up, rinse it out, run the brass through the rotary media separator, then dump the brass...

    Show off your 1911

My favorite 1911s, my Kimber Master Carry Pro 45ACP, and my newest pistol, Springfield EMP 3” 40S&W. I also have an older Charles Daly Officer’s model 45ACP, my first compact 1911, but it doesn’t belong in this pic.

    Review: Springfield Armory 911

Got an e-mail from Springfield customer service. My 911 .380ACP is on its way back to me. They had it in house for 2 weeks to install the slide stop retainer spring. I’m just hoping the pin stays put for a while. It arrives Thursday, and maybe I get to shoot it Friday.

Update 03/01/2020.....Tumblers..... Going round and round!

I don’t know how many cases Thumbler can handle, but they are the most loved tumblers, if forum posts are to be believed. I use a F.A.R.T. when wet tumbling. The capacity is very impressive, though I may have overloaded it the last time. The instructions provide a weight limit versus a specific...

    The .40

So I checked the brass from the factory ammo I shot on Monday night. Recap...this was a NIB EMP 3” 40 S&W. I successfully fired 96 rounds, though taking 97 trigger pulls to do it. Only one failure to fire. However, that may have just been luck. Throughout the 4 ammo brands there were multiple...

Let's Clean them up! The Brass that is........

I resized all of the 45 ACP cases from my last post. They were squeaky clean. Though I’m always impressed with the cleanliness of my pin tumbled brass, I still have to wear gloves when processing, and the gloves are always filthy when I’m done with a session. I began to consider lubing the...

Let's Clean them up! The Brass that is........

I’ve recently acquired an ultrasonic cleaner. This pic is a batch of .45 ACP including once fired and some range pickup. These results are simply amazing. I also did a batch of 9mm prior to this, but I didn’t put in the proper amount of cleaner, plus, I did them in a plastic basket, which...

    The .40

Took it out tonight. Had a window of opportunity and I grabbed it. Shot 24 rounds (3 full magazines each) of Winchester, Maxx-Tech, Fiocchi, and Herter’s. All FMJ FP, ranging from 165gr to 180gr. Pretty decent shooting from some run-of-the-mill ammo. Only one issue...the very first round of...

    The .40

Picked up my EMP 40 as planned. Took a few pics as requested. As shipped, slide open, slide closed, compared to Kimber Master Carry Pro 45 ACP Can’t wait to shoot this side by side Slide is as stiff as expected in a new carry piece. Honestly, I’m just glad I could rack it. It took every bit of...

New Springfield "Bringing SHOT Show Home" gun giveaway

Thanks for sharing. I’ll sing your praises if I actually win one of these beauties.

    Powder selection

Got it...doesn’t apply. I scrounge brass off the disgusting range floor, so I’m always filthy after a shooting session. I have to scrub up in the restroom before even considering leaving the range. I should probably stop doing that, but I don’t hate picking up some extra brass. A few months ago...

    The .40

It’s a bit of an odd situation for me. My son had a Beretta PX4 Storm 40S&W. He was looking to sell it, as well as a Bersa Thunder 380. I don’t like the idea of “family” guns leaving the roost, so I decided to buy them from him. I also didn’t want my sizable ”investment” in bullets, dies, and...

    The .40

That’s insane! Too bad mine’s already in transit or I’d cancel and but this one. That’s 9% lower priced than mine. While 9% doesn’t sound like much, at that price it’s enough to buy me 250 rounds of ammo for the familiza Shooting. I have 2 FFL gun dealers nearby...and the web says there are...

    Anyone using Everglades 230gr FMJ?

I’ve run into that issue several times with my 45 loads. I look at it and think...that’s wayyyy too deep. But when I measure it it matches Berry’s specifications. I laminated the Berry’s C.O.L. chart for quick reference, as I have a lot of their bullets in multiple calibers. My 40S&Ws were also...

    Powder selection

Now you tell me! Actually, I guess I don’t mind dirty powder. I clean my pistols often...I used to clean them after every shooting session, but have relented a bit, and now generally wipe them down and do a full cleaning as needed, or when I’m particularly motivated. It always possible that I...

    The .40

It’s getting closer. Pistol is now in Lexington, KY, expected arrival on Monday. Went to pick up a bunch of 40S&W ammo last night, just in case I get a chance to actually shoot it.

    Springfield EMP .40 3”

I saw this last week, spent a few days pondering, then just couldn’t pass up on such a sweet deal. I placed the order last Thursday evening, PSA was probably closed by then. Shipping notice updated today. UPS finally picked up and it’s expected in to my FFL on Monday. We’ll see, since Monday’s a...

    1911 Aluminum or Steel?

Interesting post. My first 1911 was a Charles Daly 45 officer model, 6 round magazines. I’ve probably run 3000 rounds through it, every conceivable factory 230gr RN. Took a lot of crap in the early years for buying it...but it shoots better now than when new (break in period was long). It is all...

    Anyone using Everglades 230gr FMJ?

Sounds like a good day all right, but what made you decide to give up on the Everglades FMJs? You had an accurate, soft recoiling round at 4.6gr. I use 4.8gr under a plated bullet for my favorite shooter, and SMSgtRod likes his at 5.0gr. Seems like you’ve got a winner with a lower charge.
