9mm — Is it great or does it suck?

Yes, special ops personal started with the 9 and transitioned back to the .45. There theory was and probably still, is to stop a threat with one shot, no matter where you hit them.Even if it just spins them around a few times by hitting them in the arm.It still gives you more time and distance...

I thought all branches switched to the Beratta 92 standard sidearm at the same time, '85-'86 from what I remember with out looking it up.:)

9mm — Is it great or does it suck?

I think I understand what you are asking at the end, I would say the 135gr would have less recoil at the same muzzle energy because you are pushing a lighter bullet down the barrel...

9mm — Is it great or does it suck?

Very true. I for one, have always taken with a grain of salt, what I've read from official statements or what the media wants me to see. I trust peoples personal experiences that have no reason to lie to me.

9mm — Is it great or does it suck?

It wasn't a consideration, because a reduced power round wasn't available until they found out they needed a reduced power round.

9mm — Is it great or does it suck?

My friend Tommy messaged me back. Said it was down loaded to what you said, soon after it initially started use by them because of the breakage/reliability issues during testing. Then a shorter case (the .40) and a smaller frame gun. Then much later, a Glock that could handle an even hotter .40...

I didn't see mention of cracked frames during testing either.

9mm — Is it great or does it suck?

What you say makes sense about the fps. I never said it was the Norma load, but I also never heard of a 10mm especially back then being that under powered until more resent years as option's increased and got popular. ... Yes OW actually made the round under design contracted by S&W. ... True...

9mm — Is it great or does it suck?

My info came from a former agent that I compete with as well. Some couldn't qualify with the more powerful round. There wasn't many 10mm options then. S&W developed the .40 ( a cut down 10mm) after they ( the FBI) had trouble qualifying with the 10mm, saying it had too much recoil. Then later...

I feel'ya. My first 1911 spoiled me for all others 19 years ago.It was a SA custom carry, built like their FBI professional model. The only difference is mine is hard chrome and has no front strap checkering. A pic was posted earlier here.

Most all calibers are good. The exception is this. Here in The Socialist State of New Jersey where they reduced your capacity, you might as well move up in caliber!:p

9mm — Is it great or does it suck?

It was 1985, switch to 9mm in a beretta 92. Mostly due to NATO guidelines, able to carry more ammo for a given weight , so more people could handle the recoil and standardization between countries. Special ops people quickly went back to .45acp. ... The FBI did something similar but oppsite...
