Situational Awareness: Tips To Stay Frosty

Agreed. Looking "at" someone is very different than looking them in the eye. The name of the game is consistently assessing your surroundings not provoking a dust up. :)

9mm — Is it great or does it suck?

I too find the ever rotating opinions of so called "experts" exhausting. How something can go from worst to first without really changing much at all just goes to show you that it's really all about perception. For me, I fired a lot of .45 and a lot of 9mm. I never messed with .40. Didn't...

    Your avatar story?

Simply punching holes in paper at the range can get to be a bit mundane so my daughter and I decided to make it a bit more interesting by working to cut BIG holes in targets one shot at a time. We take turns competing to be the first to cut out the next big chunk. We found ourselves...

Has anybody ever successfully defended their family with a gun?

Thankfully, no. I spend a lot of time and effort to deter any would be attacker/intruder in hopes that I will never have to actually engage. I'll certainly be prepared should it happen but I hope it never does.

    Negligent Discharge

My Grandpa started teaching me about gun safety when I was very young. He instilled a healthy sense of paranoia from the beginning. That was many years ago and I still feel that paranoia every time I'm holding a loaded firearm. I've tried to instill that same sense of paranoia in my kids...

What do you currently use for EDC

Eh, that's what screen names are for...anonymity. Uncle Sam already knows everything they want to know about you. :-0

    Are you flinching

My daughter and I shoot together quite a bit and flinching or "anticipating the shot" is something we work on regularly along with finger placement on the trigger. We've done the dummy round exercise with some success. Of late, we've started working on how to correct it immediately when it...

What do you currently use for EDC

When I selected the EMP Contour my intent was to find an option for EDC that I didn't feel the need to modify in some way. I wanted a reliable workhorse. I've had it for a while now and feel like I made a solid choice. It fits my grip comfortably and it's also incredibly smooth to...

    Is anonymity still attainable?

I try to operate under the assumption that members of the media are not your friends. The best thing you can hope to do is remain invisible. Now, to your point, the media is hell bent to make sure they expose anyone and everyone they can to drive drama. After all, without drama what would the...

    Yep. Great topic.

What is the best Home Defense Weapon?

Oh, here we go...the legal stuff. Ugh! In talking with an attorney a while back, he said that I need to be prepared to be sued regardless of how it turns out. It'll be the intruder/attacker or their family that'll sue in our sue happy society. Again, deter if you can before you're forced to...

What is the best Home Defense Weapon?

I remember a bit of a personal epiphany the first time I had the opportunity to fire a full auto AK-47. The sound was incredibly intimidating. Going along with my deterrent first mentality, the more you can do to intimidate an intruder, sending them running before the worst happens, the...

What is the best Home Defense Weapon?

I've always believed a good deterrent to be the best weapon...a dog and an advertised alarm system. However, if Mr. Crazy just will not be deterred, I'll be grabbing a 12 gauge. The sound of a 12 gauge being fired in an enclosed space might just change Mr. Crazy's mind.

How often to the range and how many rounds?

Not as often as I'd like; however, I try to get to the range two to three times a month. When I do get the time to go, I try to make it count going through at least 200 rounds. I'll bring my EMP and my XDM and sometimes more. On occasion, I'll hit the rental counter to try something new...

    1911 Caliber Choice

All of mine are 9mm. I did this for two main reasons. One, it's hard to argue with the efficiency of stocking up on a single type of ammunition. Two, I prefer more rounds per magazine. I figure a 9mm will do just about anything you need it to assuming you're capable of decent shot placement...

Banning FMJ at a rifle range?!?

I've talked with four different ranges supporting out to at least 600 yards that are within "reasonable" driving distance and three of the four ban FMJ. Fortunately, I do have one option at this point that I'll be checking out...1.5 hour drive...sigh.

Under the pillow or in the nightstand?

I have a couple of dogs in the house and an alarm system so the odds of someone sneaking up on me at night while I'm sleeping are nearly zero. That said, I err on the side of caution and keep my 1911 ready to go while locked in a dedicated safe in a drawer in my nightstand.

Banning FMJ at a rifle range?!?

Ha! No. Texas, thus my confusion.

Banning FMJ at a rifle range?!?

I've been interested in expanding my range with my M1A. As such, I've been looking around for a new rifle range supporting out to at least 600 yards (stretch goal). Obviously, this means an outdoor range. I was pleased to discover many possibilities in my area until I learned that many of...
