Thanks for this article. My current instruction sometimes involves 3 different instructors with expertise in different areas.
While I focus primarily on self-defense with CCW, I also do some rifle and target/competition pistol training.
BTW, the links at the bottom of this article are also very...
Good tip about loading and storing the mags. I up to nearly 700 rounds through my Ronin EMP 3 with a wide variety of brands and grains. Planning on conducting a range accuracy test later this week with different types of ammo.
Definitely sound advice. The one thing I want to work on is shooting while flat on my back. Training to deal with a situation where an assailant shoves or knocks you down I think would be pretty real world-like.
Great stuff! 👍 Definitely will be sharing this with some of my shooting buddies. Excellent exercise in self-applying a tourniquet, and that’s now on my training to-do list.
🙌 Wow, would like to get some instruction from you, seriously!

Spot on! Close quarters engagement, but always with a rule of breaking contact and prolonging the distance between you and your attacker. If that means firing from your hip and aiming while indexing and continuing to do so as you walk backwards until you fully extend your firing arm outwards and...
But J, in this day and age of an unending plethora of customized choices, one is allowed, and even encouraged, to exercise some artistic license! Least we forget, the Hogue grip for my Ronin EMP is also available in OD, FDE and flaming Pink! :D
Admittedly, the SA wood grips are much more attractive than the Hogue’s! However, when it comes to an EDC, I sometimes do push function over form. It is a balancing ⚖️ act.
As I have large hands, I purchased a set of black Hogue 1911 Officers Model Grips (#43000) for my fairly new Ronin EMP 3.
Here's the Hogue link showing the different colors available: 1911 Officers Model Hogue Grips (Also available on Amazon and other sites.)
I slightly trimmed the grip...
