I've carried a J-Frame .38 special in the past with two some speed strips with six rounds each on them (I know, the J frame is a five rounder, but I thought it was good idea to use that sixth spot in each just in case I needed it). While the J-Frame was "fat" due to the cylinder, those 12 rounds...
I have not, but I really enjoy NRA's "Armed Citizen" pieces they post. These are great, and proof that people use guns for self-defense (although the media doesn't like to talk about it).

If there's ever another "assault weapon ban" that limits magazine capacities back down to 10 rounds or something like that, I suspect the .40 will come back in popularity....
I saw a review somewhere (Icant remember where) that the Speer short barreled ammo is really good. I think they tested some +P .38 out of a J-Frame and it got really good velocity and expansion in gelatin.
That is surprising and seems like a really good deal. I don't know much about Cali compliant guns, but I would assume it's just one that is on the "approved" list and is pretty much the same gun as the "regular"? It's not like an AR that has to have all those bullet buttons, silly stocks, etc...
Hey guys, I'm in the market for a micro 9mm for possibly pocket carry and am trying to decide what to get. I've heard a LOT about the Sig P365, but I'm just not that impressed. In all fairness, I haven't shot one, but the gun just feels topheavy to me. I know on paper it's tiny, and its...
Thanks for the responses, everybody. I'm starting to think that I would not think to use it under the stress of someone being in my home. But, I do agree that it could be a great training tool. I've always been on the fence on whether lasers were gimmicky or actually useful...
I've done pocket carry for a long time, but to be honest I treat it mostly as a convenience type of thing. When I want to just drop a gun in my pocket and head out instead of strapping on a holster on my belt. But, I always use a pocket holster (been using a Blackhawk TecGrip a lot lately...
I've been playing around with ArachniGrip's SlideSpider https://www.arachnigrip.com/store/-c13021424 and like it. I thought it was a bit of a gimmick at first, but it's turned out to be really handy.
I'm the opposite on that... I like really small 9mm guns for CCW, like one that can fit in a pocket (or at least a really small IWB holster set up). I don't want a big pistol grip jabbing into my side all day when I can carry a little 9mm thats small and comfortable, but still powerful enough to...
For me, it's 9mm all the way (or .45). I've always disliked the .40 — whippy recoil, lowish capacity, etc. — and preferred other chamberings. For me, I either wanted a 15+ 9mm or was find carrying a 1911 with 7 or 8 rounds of .45 more than enough. The compromise of the .40 never seemed worth it...
I'm wondering if a laser might be a good addition for a home defense pistol like this? Would it make taking a shot like that guy did at the end easier?
Yeah, a .44 would be better, but a howitzer would be even better than that. At some point, you have to balance what you can actually carry with what you want to have against a threat. My answer would be to not be around the bear, but inside my house safe and sound. But if I did find myself...
