Have you tried stuffing a 10th round in? I just got the 10mm. They are 10rd mags with the standard baseplate BUT with the baseplate for the flared magwell they hold 11. Edit: I see now you tried that. I'll leave my comment up though for others to see the baseplate might make a difference.

I was able to order mine from a small dealer pretty quick. I also stopped into a local store and they had the XD-M Elite Compact 10mm (but without the Hex) so I was able to hold it before I ordered it with the Hex. They are out there but go quick I'm told.
