Forgotten Armored Assault During the Invasion of Grenada

-The Rangers had lost a gun Jeep and crew to an ambush just east of the airfield. That action was followed up by a squad of 82D troopers detailed to recover the Rangers bodies. A very good friend and team mate of mine was the squad leader. Jeff is no longer with us so I will give a...

Battle of Cape Gloucester: Misery Manifest

You are spot on about Dugout Doug. Un-revised history shows he was asleep at the wheel at very critical moments during the big one and Korea. Definitely asleep when Pearl took it also.

Gran Sasso Raid — Most Daring Mission of World War II?

Major Harold Mors planned the operation but Skorzeny got the laurels. Most accounts of this raid give the impression it was all Skorzeny but the article puts a different and accurate light on the operation. I wonder how many times they rehearsed the op before they executed the mission.

Great story and written with just the right amount of humor.

    My "Hamburger Hill" War Trophy

The unobservable are the widows, children, family members, fiances, girl friends and buddies who still grieve the lose of their soldiers of every branch of service. When we lost a buddy or a troop in the unit I accepted it as part of the deal, but I always grieved for those back home. The worse...

Hunt and Capture of German Submarine U-505

Like many posts I saw this sub and did the interior tour of the vessel as a kid. Even then I was amazed at how small the interior living quarters were, short 'hot' bunks and all. But it was outside when I saw it. I grew up in Chicago and would visit the Museum of Science and Industry often as...

    Republic P-47 Thunderbolt — America’s Flying Tank

Great article. My dad was a gunner on a B24 and I am sure if he was still on the planet he could tell me some more stories of his adventure. He did earn 4 Air Medals and I never knew that until he passed and I was going through his military records. RIP Warrior!

    Republic P-47 Thunderbolt — America’s Flying Tank

I think you are remembering an A1E Skyraider, the Spad. Look similar to the Jug. But I could be wrong. Maybe the French had them and some RVN pilots flew them when the US started in that theater.

Exercise Tiger — Kriegsmarine Attack at Slapton Sands

Good read. Have read about this before and read an account from the German side. I guess the Allied forces believed they were relatively safe while eating mutton in the UK with little if any contact with the German forces. It got real, real fast for them, troops and leaders alike. Security for...

Do You Own Too Many Guns?

Don't own too many guns but definitely own too many guitars! The guns I have I am intimately familiar with. Out of the large inventory of guitars I am intimately familiar with only three, the others just sit in their cases in storage. Those three and the guns are always within arms reach.

Reasons for Concealed Carry: My Interview with a Psychopath

At one time people like Frank would never be allowed to roam free. I believe it was during the 80s that Congress, including President Reagan said it was cruel to keep people like Frank off the streets and in mental institutions. So the law that kept 'them' in was changed and 'they' let 'them'...
