Brass Matters: Variance, Longevity, and the Hidden Geometry of Case Life

The neck/shoulder area can be annealed to help prevent cracks from work hardening. The base / lower case should not be annealed.

    Iron sights question

2 week and two day turnaround from Springfield. Wilson Battlesight rear installed and fired for POI, Needed a higher front as expected and the only one they had available in the correct height was a night sight with an orange ring similar to the OP. I was told the front is like what comes on...

Is Kimber the go-to for 1911s these days?

I would rather have a Springfield. I will admit to some bias with Kimber. When the original Kimber of Oregon was in Clackamas and owned by the Warnes they had a fine high end .22 Rimfire rifle. Unfortunately, certain business practices led to bankruptcy. Along came Edelman and Nationwide...

Mags keep dropping from Ronin 9mm

I also have a 5" Ronin. I use Wilson, Ed Brown Tripp and Springfield mags. A couple of things to check: Many aftermarket magazine catches have a Wolff #2 spring which is two steps lighter then stock. I prefer the #1 Wolff spring myself. Maybe try a heavier spring. And; is the magazine...

Was the Atomic Bombing of Japan Necessary?

Even after the first (Hiroshima) bomb Japan refused to surrender. They would have fought to the last man if we ended up invading the homeland and it would have been terribly costly in terms of manpower. So yes, it was necessary. The thing that galls me is the USSR. They refused requests to...

    Iron sights question

Not a bad idea but I just don't care for them. I am more of a traditionalist.

    Why no gunsmithing thread ?

It may be hard to get a Smith that knows their stuff to commit time for a Gunsmith section. They are probably too busy for it.

    Iron sights question

Not an XDm but I am having the rear sight on my Ronin switched to a Wilson Battlesight. For my use and eyes I believe the .145 wide slot will work out better for me. SA is doing the remove and replace and it will stay with the stock front fiber optic unless a higher front is needed to zero...

    Sierra .30 Cal .308 discontinued. 7350

A lot of those older bullets are as good as they ever were but were discontinued due to newer designs. I still have one sealed box of these. Nosler Zipedo solid base .22 bullets. I never got around to trying them but I did use a LOT of their later .22 Solid Base boattails. The Zipedo's were...

The M13 Aircrewman Revolver, Part I

A few avoided destruction and are still around. There are more fakes or Frankenguns than real ones now I believe.

    Reliable Snap Caps

all I know is that I normally like Tipton. With 9mm though the Tipton's I tried had two issues in my 1911: after a couple of snaps they would go too deeply into the chamber and the base was too small for the extractor to reliably grab. I gave up on them.

    HS-Custom Garrison 4.25″ 9mm

It is good to see someone who's first suggestion is NOT to get rid of all the MIM. to quote from the article. “I build more guns on ‘Springers’ than any other. I enjoy doing it because the specs are always spot-on with no surprises. Aftermarket parts are easy to fit, and I usually never need to...

Multiple questions gun grip screws, grommets, and locktite

I use Challis bushings and get them and o'rings from them. I use blue locktite on the bushings but nothing on the grip screws.

America’s Cold War Supersonic Marvel — The XB-70 Valkyrie

Probably my favorite airplane. Two made; one crashed and burned. I saw the surviving plane as it made it's last flight as it flew past my high school on it's way to the Air Force Museum over by Fairborne, Ohio. It had fighter escorts front, back, above and below and was a sight to see. It...

    NRA Magazine Subscription

It really doesn't matter which magazine you pick as they are a mere shadow of what they once were. Mostly ads, editorials and maybe one decent article. I get the Rifleman myself but I don't belong to the NRA for the magazines. I would rather see decent quarterly magazines then monthly fluff.

    gov shut down and congress

Does anyone not think the Dems are not doing this on purpose knowing it'll get voted down. It's all a matter of who gats blamed. The Dems make a proposal that has things in it (poison pills) they know are non-starters but they get to say look at us, we tried to be reasonable but those mean old...

'I want to sit here and watch him die':

And Illinois doesn't want someone fighting back or defending themselves; Their latest is no firearms allowed on Public Conveyances, Metra bus and trains, CTA bus and trains etc. He'll be free quickly if he isn't already as the standard is No-cash bail, put an ankle monitor on and go about your...

Shaw Barrels: The Biggest Barrel Manufacturer You’ve Never Heard Of

I well remember E.R. Shaw. Shaw barrels were on many a custom rifle. There was a time when your choices for a barrel were Douglas or Shaw. Truth be known; I think most people planning a new build once more baller makers came on the scene would go with Shilen, Hart, Lilja if it was in their...
