Just changed the battery on my Shield SMSc mounted on Hellcat. Battery was 18 months old. was a little dim but perfectly shootable. Am in process of installing a Apex trigger assembly. Apex shipped same day and I had it in 3 days, great service.
I am sold on optics for pistols. Great for old...
I have a SMSC on my Hellcat now for 11 months, Not one problem, co witness great. shoots better than me.
Will probably change battery out soon, was curious to see how long it would last. It mounted right out of the box and was almost right on.. I love it. Bought from Springfield armory. Good...
My SMSC fit theHellcat right out of the box and was almost on zero. Since then, hundreds of rounds and still dead on. I love the dot size. Dot blooms some in bright light but does not effect accuracy at least in my case. Love the pistol and the sight.
Seems to me this is the easiest way to go...
I have two optics, vortex venom on a S&W shield and a Shield on a Hellcat. Love them both. The Venom on smith does not co-witness.
V good 6 min dot , but does stick up higher due to base used.
Hellcat has shield, fits perfect can use dot or iron. Right out of the box it was only couple inches...
Just an update on my Hellcat and optics. I bought my Hellcat in early Feb. and Installed a Shield SMSc optic on it in April. I absolutely love it. I have approx 600 rnds thru the cat with the optic. No issues. I'll say that the dot is not as defined as my Vortex Venom on the Shield as it tends...
Excellent article and right on. I find the Hellcat iron sights very quick to acquire, Not target sights but excellent shooting steel. My combination of Red dot and co witness of existing sights very satisfying. Love it.
As I previously posted, I mounted a Smsc on my Hellcat. So far I love it. Only about 100 rnds with new installation but no problems.
Going to the range is kinda iffy. I went to friends farm where we have 4 steel plates set up, I use to be happy to ring the steel, but now Im happy to consistently...
Apparently on some pistols the sight runs out of up adjustment, as I see it the thick part of shim at the rear forces the muzzle up, negating the need for so much up trim.
This sight was almost smack on after install. I zeroed it on lazer target with half doz clicks left and up.
Co witness is...
After much looking, reading, listening about red dots for the Hellcat, I decided on going with the Shield Smsc. Called Springfield and ordered one. It came quickly, no tax no shipping. After a call back to Springfield re: mounting, I installed it and it fits like a glove. Small and compact. I...
Ok GaryC, Thanks for the information. I really like the iron sights on the Hellcat and also like the red dot. I think your post will push me towards the Springfield sold Shield model. Im shooting a red dot on my M&P Shield now and love it, but no iron sights as it is mounted on rear sight wedge...
I just got notice that my Sig Zero was available, before ordering can you tell me if iron sights can be seen thru cut out in the optic.
I still have option to buy the Shield SMSC, it’s a hundred bucks more but is designed for hellcat, with no modifications. Thank you for your post.
I have a Vortex Venom mounted on a M&P Shield 9mm. It was installed Nov8 2019 using the battery they shipped. Battery just died, venom was set on manual with lowest brightness selected.
Battery was on all the time, so I got 3200 hrs out of it. I like this sight and no problems, approx 900 rnds...
I would remove the sight, Get screws of proper length ie no longer than .095 below base and retry the fit. As I posted before Hellcat manual states max.095'' protruding screw length so as to not bottom out in slide. Might be worth a try.
Would like to hear response on elevation runout and also if co witness is possible without any mods to zero sight. I’m very interested in this sight but some questions still there.
