1,000 Yards from a $500.00 Rifle: Ruger’s American Predator

Good and interesting read here for Ruger fans.

The Ruger American Predator Rifle in the .308 & 6.5 Creedmoor Caliber is one of the many budget rifles used in long-range competition for the past few years by novice competitors, For the money, these are a good rifle choice to start with. I use a Ruger Precision Rifle in 6.5 Creedmore for these long-range events Here is a photo of my Ruger Precision Rifle. The 6.5 is a flat shooter it stems from the .260 Remington AKA 6.5 -08 derived from its .308 case 1000 meter shots and beyond with this rifle are not uncommon. The 7mm -o8 also derived from the .308 does well also. But my .300 win mag masters the event at 1500 meters.

Good reading Anni!

I've been looking at these rifles for a little bit now but I'm on a waiting list to join a club that can support long range shooting. When I get in the club I'll buy the rifle otherwise I'll have it and I'll go out of my mind waiting to use it.

It's too heavy to hunt with its ok to sit in a Blind or stand and shoot off the inclosed bench but at my age walking in the woods, it's far too heavy . I use it for competition shoots along with my M1a super match .308 my favorite rifle. I swapped a guy an old colt commander .45 for the Ruger Precision Rifle about 3 or 4 years ago. even trade no scope he never even fired it because he had no place to shoot and thought the 500 for the scope was too costly.I think it was about right the Colt commander was a series 70 and the rifle sold for around 1,150

The Ruger American would make a great rifle, for the price point. My F.I.L has one in .243 and it shoots lights out. Easy to tote and doesn’t break the bank.
