Review: Springfield Armory XD 40 Sub-Compact

I'm a fan of the XD line, but the .40 S&W XD's always puzzled me a bit. I had gotten used to the general rule for firearms that .40 S&W models have a lower capacity than 9mm versions, but greater capacity than .45 ACP models. In the XD Mod.2 line, the 4" Service Model had a 12-round capacity in .40 S&W, but a 13-round capacity in .45 ACP. In the subcompact models, both the .40 S&W and the .45 ACP had 9 round capacities in the flush mags. The 40 S&W is a proven self-defense round, but if I'm getting equal or less capacity, I will choose the .45 ACP. I can see the .40 S&W models appealing to die-hard fans of the caliber, but the choice of capacity struck me as odd.

What I like about the XD 40 Sub-Compact is that it (by default) meets the (ignorant and) oppressive requirements of the (once great... now socialist / leftist) state of New York... but I didn't see anything in the review about the trigger... how does it compare to the H&K VP and Walther PDP?

10 years later, this little guy is still my go to for CCW. I have neglected that thing like the cross between a red haired step child and a rented mule from time to time, and it never fails to perform. I had to add a Pierce grip to accommodate my giant hands and added a Clip Draw, but other than that, I wouldn't change a d*mn thing about that gun.

After putting close to 1000 rounds since I got this handgun, I love all my XD's. Great handgun's. I have to say I'm looking forward at completing my set of XD's. All I need is the .45 sub compact and I will have all the 9mm, .40 S&W and the .45's in sub, service and Tactical. Then off to work on the 10mm's I want.
