Hello all, here is today's article posted on TheArmoryLife.com. It is titled “Truing Your Data for Long-Range Shooting” and can be found at https://www.thearmorylife.com/truing-your-data-for-long-range-shooting/.
Yes it is and a skill set worth pursuing if you wish to continue to improve your rifle shooting. Started with my Devine, TX M1A after match grading it in 1976. Shoot high power or CMP matches. Someone will usually take the time to help you.One may get their rifle DOPE figured out on the range under ideal conditions & program their hand-held device to reference, but a shooter can't predict, nor can a computer tell you how to deal with different wind conditions that can occur, especially in mountainous country where winds are swirling through canyons and side drainages.
While its popular now to try to take a deer or elk at the longest possible ranges, it still boils down to getting as close as possible (actual hunting) to reduce the unpredictable variables before taking a shot in order to get a humane kill.
Harvesting paper is an entirely different ballgame.
