The article lists the usual 1911 variants, but I was pleasantly surprised to see that it also included the Charter Arms Pitbull. The originality points the author gets for including the Pitbull almost make up for the glaring omission of the XDS Mod.2 .45 ACP. The XDS Mod.2 is easily my favorite subcompact .45 in the under $800 (pre-COVID) price range.
The XD Mod.2 Subcompact is a fine gun, but the XDS would be my choice for concealed carry. The 4" XD Mod.2 .45 ACP was my first XD, and was the most accurate .45 that I have ever fired. I loved that gun so much that I purchased a Subcompact also. The thickness of the Subcompact made it so that it didn't really conceal much better than my full-sized version, which I shot more accurately. The XDS Mod.2 disappeared under a t-shirt and was much more comfortable to carry all day.
The only aspect of the XDS Mod.2 that isn't perfect is the limited ammo capacity. If Springfield could find a way to give the XDS .45 the Hellcat treatment, and allow it to carry 7+1 or 8+1, that would be my absolutely ideal CCW.
