1884 Springfield trapdoor rifle

AR72

Alpha
I have a 1884 springfield trapdoor. I have a problem with accuracy. At a 100 yards it shoots about 3 feet high. I put a new buffington sight on it. I was wondering if the barrel is bent.

Um, I suppose its possible, kinda hard for us to tell however. I mean it looks ok to me from here but that's something a local gunsmith could figure better than us.

might need a taller front sight, have seen them replaced a few times before.

If you shoot jacketed ammo you will ruin the barrel. It was made of soft/mild steel and modern jacketed ammo will wear down the lands and grooves. Should only shoot lead bullets through it.

Did it shoot high with the original sight or after you put the Buffington on it? Is your firearm a rifle or a carbine? Is the Buffington marked C for carbine or R for rifle?
