1903 Mark I Stock

First time posting,

I am hoping someone here may have information about where one might find a decent original stock. I inherited the remains of my father's gun business a few years ago. In the mix of odds and ends I found a complete action serial number 1056942 1903 MARK I it's in excellent condition and later I found the matching (?) barrel mixed in with a few blanks. I had a local gunsmith assemble the two and check the timing, alignment and bore. So far so good but I have been unsuccessful in locating a decent stock.

I have done some research and found a couple of 1903 posts on Ebay on occasion. most are not Mark I with the finger groves in the fore end. Looking for any information as I would love to complete the re-assembly. At this point I would settle for a nice period specific 1903 with the Petterson Port. Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks

My father was Don Reid, Cougar Gun Works originally out of Santa Cruz, CA.

That one is going to be tuff to find. Even a WWI finger groove stock in decent condition is hard to turn up. Have you found a correct WWI era bolt?

Mine is complete with Bolt, Sights, and if I remember correctly, they had an issue with the bolt handle. Mine appears to be the swept down angled version which the article I read indicated was correct. I do not know if the barrel is actually originally from this action but it is stamped as appropriate for the correct years of manufacture.

I have English Walnut sporter stock, thumb hole grip but I really think it should go back in the way it was intended and for a sporter this barrel just would not do.

What date is on the barrel near the muzzle? Also are there any letters/numbers on your bolt? This finger groove stock may be as close as you get: https://www.ebay.com/itm/175246700902?hash=item28cd847166:g:kLwAAOSw6YxiVfZX
Depending on whether you can find the parts that are correct for that serial number may dictate how much you want to spend on a WWI stock. Most of the stocks you will find today are for 1903A3's and they have some modifications you don't see on WWI stocks. Hope this helps.

S A and then 10-44 is on the barrel and the bolt is stamped 3 on the top and there is a side stamp that I can't read yet.

Ken, from your figures your rifle has all the characteristics of a WWII era rebuild. The WWI bases were almost impossible to remove from the barrels without being damaged, so the round rear sight base is often found on these. So, a 1903A1 style stock would be appropriate.
This site seems to have a lot of parts should you need more: https://www.granpasgunparts.com/model-1903a1
These guys may have a stock you could use: https://www.gunpartscorp.com/gun-manufacturer/us-military/springfield-1903-3/stocks-03
