General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon

John Boyd, whose OODA loop concept is often cited in firearms training circles, is largely credited as being the father of the Lightweight Fighter (LWF) Program concept. The LWF was the genesis for the F16 and F18 fighters. I was at Wright Patterson AFB when the F16 was being developed, and recall how excited the engineers were about the aerodynamics and capabilities of the aircraft. I have family and friends who flew the F16 in combat and as current instructors and they absolutely love this masterpiece of aerospace design even 50 years later.

After being re-assigned from Alaska I left the F15 world and the remainder of my Air Force career was spent on the F16. It was a great aircraft and a crew chiefs dream to work on. I have very special memories with this weapon system.
