I've used the laundry bag, reverse masking, and organic masking methods.
They've all proved their effectiveness, but............
Until the paint "wears in", and by that I mean, wears off the high wear areas, and high spots, the finish contrast is unnaturally bright.
While a useful method, I'll stick with one that doesn't require high pressure water to remove the masking agent.

A $$$ rifle, it will be Cerakote.
A $ PSA special or such $599 will get a spray can rather than a $500 cerakote

Cerakote is too permanent and doesn't wear unless it's applied "distressed ". And that's just an effect done during application.
I was no fan of sprayed on finishing over the standard treatment until I painted my first one.
Krylon Ultra Flat, and Rustoleum Camouflage sprays are the best there is, especially after the wear in period.
