Shoot While Moving vs. Move Then Shoot

A good drill to help develop shooting while *moving* skills:
Set up any number of barrels (preferably), cones-any obstacle- in a fairly straight line about six feet apart and a target or two down range. Begin slowly / at a comfortable pace, weaving in and out around each barrel while placing a round on target as you move around each barrel. Keep your weapon on sight / on target as you move. It helps develop balance, footwork, and speed and hits on target. It also helps to avoid a bad habit of moving *only* in a straight line (which is a common and acceptable way to begin learning.)

As you develop your skills you can incorporate using the barrels for shooting behind cover, multiple threats down range, practicing combat (and administrative) reloads in the moment and anything your imagination might see, eventually including moving/shooting both strong and weak hand only.

Just drills that I have been taught in various tactical courses over the years that helped me a great deal. Moving and shooting is a deteriorating skill so practice as often as you can.

You'll rarely shoot while walking unless you are clearing a room or in a competition, and even then it's slow and close up.
In most real combat, you are either running/moving OR shooting. If you are doing both at the same time, you aren't doing either good enough.
That’s bullshite.

I mean it may be true for you, I don’t know. A good deal of my training involves shooting while moving at targets which are also moving.

And no one is talking about combat really. At least I’m not. If you ain’t training for it as it pertains to civilian defensive firearm situations that’s a you problem.

I prefer to skip, myself. Or swagger. But never mince or sashay while shooting if you want them to take you seriously. Remember elbows out, not in
Well that’s the cop training. You guys always want to be taken seriously. 😂

A guy I know named Trent (who’s now a state trooper) was a STL county cop. He was practicing his draw in his bedroom and shot himself in the leg. He has sashayed ever since.

You cant hit 💩 unless you are jive talkin

Hi,

Some of my best training sessions incorporated a "run-n-gun" or a "tactical stroll". It's a good skill to practice. I'll work on the skipping sashay somersault backfip mosey when I take the advanced training.

Thank you for your indulgence,
