In the limited role of this Stowaway rifle/pistol the 5.7 NATO is the most potent round, and being a single-shot bolt action you won't be doing mag dumps...

I’d rather have a .308 or 7.62 SBR with a 8 in barrel and a folding stock.

Depending on where you’re headed, you’d be better served with an AR7 or an old Guide Gun in .45/70

Neither the various iterations of the M6 Aircrew Survival Rifle, nor the ArmaLite AR-7 won beauty contests, and the DM Stowaway is in the same category as those previous types of basic survival rifles.
