It's a great home defense option. Well vetted and time tested platform. Very reliable and affordable. Great ergos, IMHO. Very affordable. Not sure that there's anything to complain about.
The Mod 1 service was the first handgun I ever purchased. Was my home defense guns for years. Later purchased a Mod 2 sub-compact for carry. I haven't purchased the Mod 3 yet, but I wouldn't think twice about carrying one or using one in a home defense role.

I have an XDM-Elite and the XD Mod.3. They are both very nice shooters (in my ever so humble unsolicited opinion). The Mod.3 is fast becoming one of my range favorites. It eats anything I feed it (so far ) and it is accurate. I don't feel the need for a dot on it right now, but having that option is pretty cool for the price I paid for it.
