22lr safe to shoot at home ?

You can do the same with a good BB gun and many are made to resemble real pistols. I have a 1911 BB gun that I sometimes shoot in the back yard and it makes hardly any noise at all. ;)
A couple of years back I caught some Aguila .22 LR ammo on sale at a very good price. Bought a brick each of two different loads to try it out. It shot ok, nothing special. But its some of the dirtiest crap I ever shot. I'll never buy it again.

I worked on a mansion being built a few years ago...owner was installing an indoor, underground single-bay 30-yard shooting range. Had a machine target retrieval system you see at all indoor ranges. The shooting "tube" was a buried 48" steel pipe that ran from the bay to the target backstop/trap. Trap had its own access from outside via pit. Coolest thing I've seen in my travels working in homes. No idea how much you could hear shooting...but it wouldn't matter...this place was by itself far away from other homes.

I routinely shoot a .22LR CCI “quiet” round suppressed in my city backyard with thick fence backstop . Wife in the family room next to my outdoor spot cant hear the round go off

BB gun and above in city limits is not permitted. Neither is speeding 😉
Can't shoot BB guns either but I do. I also have used "Quiet" rounds to knock off a couple of ignorant squirrels.

my house is very old, at least 160 +...years old

walls are thin, foundation is stone, bricks..

drafty as all hell.

too much to remodel, insulate, sound proof....ventilate

if i fart, (and i do often all day & night long), the cops come a knockin' to see what explosive device i might be building

i know every cop, swat team member, K-9 dog on a first name basis.
