22lr is more widely available.

Otherwise there are several 9mm handguns that are small enough to bypass the .25-.380 class of cartridges.

For some folks, the .22 might be the best option. You can buy ammo about anywhere, it is not super expensive, recoil is not a big issue and guns in .22 caliber are plentiful. Based on forum posts, I think most people here can afford more expensive guns and ammo, but not everyone is as fortunate.

Actually this is what I carry now since it’s hotter out, use it with a sticky holster in my pocket, .25acp, feeds anything I throw at it, very reliable

.25 should be more reliable ammunition wise (rimfire priming issues on the .22). That said the .22 ammo is a lot more plentiful, cheaper. I wouldn’t want to be on the wrong end of either. That said, not much energy there. You’d best be able to shoot it well.
