250 Yard Range Revamped

After shooting the cowbell gong at 250 yards, I decided to revamp it so I could have multiple gongs hung instead of just one. I took advantage of the warm weather and the fact that we didn't have frozen ground here in February.
I cut a 3" I Beam at 60" for the uprights and drilled a 1.375" hole in them to accommodate the 1" x 60" pipe that would be the cross member. Both end were threaded to receive end caps.
Used a post hole digger to get down 25-26" to plant the I Beams. Squared up everything and back filled the holes with dirt. Hung 6", 10" and the Liberty cowbell gongs. I think it turned out ok.

i can't see the gongs thru the trees

or is it, i can't see the forest thru the trees?

either way, i too am jealous of you having a great set up.

When I bury pipe for target stands at the range I generally go about 24", but that's probably a minimum mental default. 16"-18" would likely be fine. Frost line is about 30" here in Missouri, but when I sink privacy fence posts ( 4x4s) I generally dig the holes 44" and put 6" of pea gravel in the bottom. The piers for my shed/shop out back I dug minimum of 50", belled the bottoms out like an elephant's foot. Dug for 10" Sonotube. The piers in front are app. 24" above grade and the ones in back are 36"-40" above grade.

I tested the cowbell with the 22 at 250 yards to check out the ring tone. It was clear as a bell at this distance. You could even hear it resonate.
Rifle is a Remington M541HB-T with a Leupold Vari X II 4-12x40mm with turrets.
Shooting Remington Thunderbolt 22 LR ammo. It's a lot of fun!
