30 Super Carry

Sorry if this has already been discussed. I was out for a couple of weeks getting a ball and chain welded to my ankle.

So, my first blush is anyone replacing a 9mm with this is crazy. 1/2” dia less expansion says it all.
I’ve seen some saying ‘random new round to take more $’ but Federal has had a lot of success with the HST Micro. Yes, it’s a new caliber but could it be the new and improved .380?

What are y’all’s thoughts.

Couple of threads on thus already Okie. One linked below had a bunch of replies, but it doesn’t hurt for more on the subject I say.

The test results look impressive but the investment in a new potentially boutique caliber isn't what I'm currently looking for.

I only own one .380 (S&W Bodyguard) and I bought it so I can have an extremely small pistol option to carry when I need ultimate concealment. If .30 super carry could be made to fit a pistol the size of the Bodyguard I may be tempted to pick one up.

This is what I said in another thread. If they make it fit the LCP max , and the ammo becomes very available , I would consider it. Till that time , I'll stick with what I have.

My decision on the adoption of the 30 Super Carry cartridge will be strictly based on price. If it consistently sells for less than .380 ACP, and guns chambered in 30 Super Carry are competitively priced, then I may adopt it. Like Papa and 10mm, I purchased my .380 ACP guns due to their size and concealability, not because I thought .380 ACP was the most effective self-defense cartridge. I believe that .380 ACP is adequate for self-defense. If that changes, I am much more likely to carry one of the 9mm pistols that I already own than I am to adopt a completely new cartridge. However, never say never.

I spot checked ammo prices, $32/box 20 hp, $28/box 50 fmj. Those were the only 2 choices, but were out of stock. I think most folks would acquire guns that use commonly found ammo, ones you could find in most stores anywhere. I'm not looking for additional calibers to load and am happy with what I have.

While I wouldn’t replace a 9mm etc with one here’s what I look at why it could be relevant.
It’s basically 32 caliber. Back in the day the 32 had a decent record of stops as far as the small rounds are concerned back when it was popular. Much like the old timers that did with the 38 full wadcutter in snubbies. People scoffed but that combo is still no joke. (Darryl Bolkie has done some articles and podcast on the historical significance where he has touched on the different 32 cal effectiveness)

So to have a small gun just to get out or trouble in a parking lot the 30 SC will probably perform just fine and with a couple more rounds since round count seems to be a selling point a lot of the time these days.

I like the .32 magnum, which is like the precursor to the auto version, the .30 SC. I don't find .32 mag ammo as often as 9 mm and the guns are pretty rare, too. Ruger made the .32 single six and cowboy shooters snapped them up. You can find them used for over a grand. Marlin made an 1894 in .32 Mag for a short time. Their prices are near $2K. If I want a .32 mag snubbie, Charter Arms makes one called the Undercoverette. I might have bought one of those, but I never see one in stock and it has that stupid name.

Not into this new round, rather go with a established cartridge, .380, 9mm and such, usually these new cartridges will be popular at first, then fade away to an extent like the .357sig, .32H&R mag and such, just my thoughts
There seems to be more manufacturers coming out with .357sig pistols so I'm not sure that round is exactly fading out.

.357sig isn't a round I'm interested in but there does seem to be a filling for it. If the price per round could get close to 9mm I'm sure there would be a lot more people willing to give it a go.

When I was still working at my sheriffs dept, I was doing the regular routine maintenance on the Chiefs Glock in .357sig, took it out an test fired it, really didn’t care for that round.

Ive fired a few rounds of .357sig over the years and it's definitely not an overly fun round to shoot. If I'm gonna make small holes in paper I'll do it with the much cheaper .22lr.

I feel the .357sig is best suited for which it was initially designed to be used in, which is a PDW type firearm with a high rate of fire made to defeat body armor clad threats
