.380 ACP in Your 9mm Pistol: Will it work?

Use the correct ammo for your gun, enough said........................................well almost. There are a lot of things that will "work" meaning send lead down range, that could/can be used in an emergency. Thats EMERGENCY, not "my cousins friends uncle told me..." and it don't mean your $1100 Springfield Armory 1911 EMP Lightweight Compact Pistol Black/Stainless 9mm is going to function.

I admit that I did shoot a box of .40 through my SA Ronin 10mm, just to see what would happen. Nothing unexpected (no failures). Won't do it again. I appreciate the build-up of residue in the chamber, even if one box of .40 wasn't enough to notice or create chambering restrictions.

Yes, I'm aware of extractor issues, but my take is: extractors are cheap, it's not my go-to gun, and I was curious. My take? If you're in a last-ditch scenario, I wouldn't hesitate to do it again if needed with no other choices. Sorry, this has nothing to do with the OP's caliber of topic. Never tried .380 in a 9. I don't own a .380 since the wife left anyway.

with the base/rim of a 40s/w being the same as a 357sig i can say you can fire a 357sig in a 40s/w ............ask me how i know.........well it wasn't intentional, but did hit the target. this was done in a g22 gun and barrel. slide acted as usual, but it ejected in a manner that was different than the 40's. 1st and only time it'll happen accidently...........stay safe out there!

Yeah, I know all the "Nevers!!!' I just know that .40 through my 10 did not cause anything to get all weak-kneed'd about. My Ronin acted normal...nothing to worry about, except the build-up of carbon in chamber, possibly preventing a real 10mm round from chambering after shooting a bunch of .40. Maybe if I'd fired more rounds I'd see a problem...

Couldn't care less about breaking an extractor. Like I said before, they're cheap and this is not a gun I rely on for anything other than range plinking. Those that say it's blasphemy? Pfft. It works.

Now, if my Ronin was my CC, or a home-defense pistol, I'd be more careful and not do it. But it's not, so I'm not. Just saying it works.

What I don’t quite get is with my S&W 610, the manual says I can shoot either .40 or 10mm, my fried has a Ruger 10mm revolver and it’s manual says not to shoot .40 through it……there both revolvers……🤔🤔🤔🤔
Ruger probably doesn’t want to deal with people wondering why ther can’t get a 10mm cartridge to load after shooting a few thousand rounds of .40 through it.
