44 magnum

Great article on the 44 Rem Mag. I've had a love affair with the big 44 for over 40 years. Great round!

I had a Super Blackhawk with a 10” barrel. I stupidly sold it. I already had a Taurus model .44 with a 8.38” barrel. It’s been flawless for thirty years and taken many deer. And you can shoot it one handed all day long. The Ruger kicked like a dancing mule. Wish I still had it though.

.44 is a long time favorite-shot them for 40 years now. These days is mostly a warm “Special” load in a magnum case. Very mild recoil and fun to shoot but still hit with authority -200 grains @ 1000 fps will hit with a thump😊. About 15 years ago my son (career jarhead🙄) had a Vaquero 4 5/8”. He wanted some “hot” loads. Came home with a box of 300 grain hard casts. Told him I thought it was a bad idea, for fooling around, but hey, he’s a Marine. Anyway he loaded them up near “max”. He fired two cylinders full and that was about all the “fun” he wanted. I think he’s still got at least half a box of them😊.
