5 Good .22 Long Rifle Loads

What I have observed is that some guns like some ammo better than others when it comes to accuracy. My Marlin 39s seem to really like Remington Golden Bullets better than CCI ammo. My Ruger Mark IV seems to like CCI Mini Mags better than others not only for accuracy but also functionality. CCI Stingers, despite their higher cost, only reside in my North American Arms revolver as they interfere with function and accuracy in every semi auto .22 I've run them through. My Ruger 77/22 likes both the heavier grain Winchester and Remington Golden Bullets better than CCI or Federals when it comes to accuracy but seems to feed everything including Stingers. For hunting, Remington Vipers and Yellowjackets are very good out of all of my .22s. My Weatherby likes Eley Tenex 40 grain but that is admittedly a more expensive ammo.

I am given to understand all of this accuracy issue has to do with barrel harmonics but I'm not an engineer so I simply trust certain guy guys that are better educated in this field than I am.

The only part of the piece I take exception with is CCI Shotshells which only seem reasonably accurate through smoothbores or garden guns. Rifled guns seem to play havoc with shot patterns at anything past 5 feet.

None of this relates to bargain ammo nor the higher priced specialty brands for precision paper punchers. I did find the recommendation for Remington Golden Bullets interesting as they are widely panned by many elsewhere which is a conclusion that is counter to what I have found.

My snub S&W 43C is loaded with Aguila Interceptor...I prefer a solid .22LR in anything I might use for defense. I have severe doubts that a hollow point will function out of a short barreled .22, and I prefer more mass to possibly reduce deflection off bone.

This might be a tad off topic, but hopefully someone will know the answer .....
Many years ago, maybe in the late 70's or early 80's, Remington offered a high quality .22 cal bolt action rifle very much in the likeness of their full sized mod 700's. They were very much patterned after the full size bolt guns in the 'Classic' and/or the 'BDL' family. I seem to remember it as a mod 514, maybe a 714, or similar but cannot remember exactly. I could probably research it and find it, but just reading this story brought it to mind. Anybody know? Thanks.

Joe, was it this one?

No, I don't think so. The one I have in mind was anything but a 'plain' model. The wood was very much like a typical old fashioned 'BDL' model, and the action was even modeled more after a center fire bolt gun. I remember the bolt handle actually being behind/rearward of the trigger as opposed to like this one where the bolt is forward of the trigger. Other than that I can't give much info, except that the one I've seen I let get away back many years ago due to other pressing needs for the dollars in my pocket at the time. Don't recall ever seeing another one since that time. But thanks anyway.

Actually I think I just found it. I'm thinking now it was a mod 514-T. Seeing the pictures of it is not exactly as I remembered it, but real close. Especially the stock. And I'm thinking that I'm remembering the action looking more like a center fire rifle was due to the scope and mounting on it. And maybe the bluing was a little deeper.

But the stock is much more like the old BDL models as I remember them. Anyway, thanks again.

Edit: It's a 541-T rather than a 514-T. Sorry 'bout that!
