Nice article. Am I to choose between the two? Well, with no plans for jungle travel any time soon, I'll take the M-14 all day.

I enjoy my M1A Scout with forward optics. Also own a Mini 30 in 7.62x39. And I have bolt rifles in both calibers. They are great calibers for battle rifles.

The AK is hard to beat. Its a solid performer in any theater of war. Nice write up.

I would pick the M1, I am a .308 kind of guy.

As you can tell by my avatar, I have a bit of a weakness for AKs. But that being said, the M1A is a truly beautiful rifle. It's a totally different type of weapon than the AK (which is charmingly crude), that's graceful and beautifully made. Heck, I own both and couldn't be happier!
