686 trouble

I'm having an issue with my 686-6. This morning I put maybe 30 rounds through it. All Norma factory ammo. At least five times, after firing a shot, I could not draw the hammer back, pull the trigger, or open the cylinder. It was like it was fused shut unless I jiggled the action a bit, at which time it operated again. This happened on all three of my last shots. Any ideas? It's going back to Smith and Wesson on Tuesday for a warranty repair but I'm also curious what the issue might be.

Yep, perfectly normal. The ejector rod doesn't turn if I hold the cylinder. I hadn't considered the lock being an issue since I've never used it.

Yea, doesn't matter if you used lock or not, they have a tendency to engaged or try to engaged themselves under recoil, my S&W 629 has done this in the past.....just trying to give you some info, just engage it then take it off and see if this helps.

I'll definitely give it a look. I don't have the key with me, just the revolver in its holster.

One thing I can say for S&W, just like every other manufacturer, they didn't give me the slightest hint of trouble about warranty service. I described the issue, they asked the serial number, and send a prepaid FedEx label to send it in for warranty work. I wish all industries took care of their customers like the firearm industry.

After I got my new reintroduce model 66, after about 50 rounds, the gun locked up only during double action firing, here this new gun went out of time, so instead of dealing with S&W customer support, I had my gunsmith who at one time was a S&W warranty repair station to repair it, cost me only $40.00, plus he did a trigger and action job at same time. Hope S&W fixes your issue, I have little faith in them due to my model 629 that had a slanted barrel, sent gun back twice and still they couldn’t install the barrel right to make it straight . Keep us informed on your 686.

Oof, that's a bad story. Hopefully they sort mine out better than they did for you.

Hey, have you heard anything on your 686 yet? I have been wondering and checking this thread for any updates on it.

The yoke is what pivots out holding the cylinder.
