I don't know how many women are members on this forum, but this was an interesting article and survey on why women are a large majority of the recent new gun owner buying surge. The survey breakdown also lists the recent protests/violence as the top percentage reason they are buying firearms (the others listed are also interesting).

Not necessarily. My wife bought her first semi-auto just for shooting fun. It was a Ruger Mark III .22 caliber.

Yes, and most of those on the list are protection related. But I found it interesting that "riot/fear and unrest" 14%, "upcoming elections" and "urged by family members" (both at 12%), were higher than "recent safety / Crime experience" 6% or "lack of law enforcement resources" 8%. Unless they were part of the protests & rioting, I would have though some of those would be higher than the the ones that showed the greater percentages.
